Obituary

Longtime Leeds, ND businessman, G. D. (Bud) Larson, 81,  died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at the Towner County Medical Center in Cando.   Funeral services will be Monday, June 15, 2009, 11:00 AM  at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Casket bearers will be Bud's grandsons: Blane Larson,  Brock Larson,  Gannon Larson,  David Larson and Michael Himle.  Music will be from Dan & MiChelle Nybo.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

G.D. (Bud) Larson was born July 7, 1927, at Leeds, ND, to Oscar and Clara (Hagen) Larson.  He was raised and graduated from the Leeds Public School.  At the age of 15, Bud hauled cattle for area farmers and at age 17, ran a custom combining business.  Bud along with is brother, Cameron, operated a Mobil Oil Service station in Leeds and also sold farm implements.  He later bought an implement business from Phil Kjelmyr in Leeds and operated it as Larson Implement for over 60 years and also farmed.  Bud's love flying, led to the beginning of Larson Aircraft Sales, a business he ran for many years.  He also was involved in the banking business for a time.  Bud married Phyllis Martin on July 25, 1945 at Devils Lake.  Phyllis passed away on January 2, 2009.

Bud was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church, a life member of the Elks and served as manager of the Leeds Airport Authority for many years.  In addition to flying, Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading the classified ads in various newspapers and magazines.

Surviving are sons:  Gary and Rick both of Leeds;  a daughter:  Jean (Mrs. Rio) Himle of Leeds;  nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  wife;  brothers:  Cameron and Curtis; sisters:  Joyce Weisman and Eunice Mountain.
