Gerald D. "Jerry" Ostlie passed away suddenly at his home in Hettinger, ND on October 27, 2021. Memorial Service for Jerry will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 4, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Burial will take place at Viking Lutheran Cemetery in rural Maddock, ND.

Gerald Douglas "Jerry" Ostlie was born April 6, 1952 in Northwood, ND to Palmer and Jane (Tupa) Ostlie.  He worked alongside his father for many years as a skilled carpenter taking pride in his work. He was married to Nancy Gilbertson and became the proud father of Leann and Shane where they resided in Maddock, ND. He farmed there for 13 years with Carroll Gilbertson, his father-in-law.  He then worked for the North Dakota Department of Transportation for 25 years in Maddock, Beach, and Hettinger ND.  After leaving the DOT, he started his own business in Hettinger as an over the road truck driver which he found much enjoyment in as he traveled the United States and Canada.  He remarried and gained two step-daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, in which he treated as his own.

More than anything he loved his kids and grandkids and was excited to be a great grandpa.  He was so proud of all of them.  He never missed a birthday call and the perfect card to go along with it.  He enjoyed his visits with friends and gathering at the flower shop or Cenex with his coffee buddies.  If he didn't know you, that wouldn't stop him from taking the time to chat and share stories. Some of his hobbies included riding horse, camping, 4-wheeling, hunting, and drinking Mountain Dew.  When he figured out how to use his cell phone, he was always on it chatting with friends. Riding his motorcycle was a favorite pastime in his later years.

Jerry is survived by his sister Vicki (Dale), brothers Jeff and Bruce, daughter Leann Ostlie, son Shane Ostlie, step-daughters Jennifer (Rich) Jahner and Jessica (Derek) Enderud, five grandchildren, one great grandson, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Palmer and Jane, brothers Randy, Kippy and Brad, and grandson Dylan Jahner.
