Gertrude Lunde's Obituary
Gertrude Lunde, 93, of Leeds, ND, died Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 22, 2011, 2:00 PM at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating. Burial will be in Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery at Harlow. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds. Casket bearers will be: Donnie Buchta, David Friestad, Loren Knutson, Curtis Lunde, Jesse Lunde and Jerry Lunde. Music will be from Mark Friestad and Dan Nybo.
Gertrude L. Lunde was born at home in Alexander, ND on January 13, 1918 to Lars and Inga Friestad. She graduated from Baker, ND high school and attended Valley City Teacher's College where she received her certificate. Gertrude married Arnold J. Lunde on June 6, 1941. The couple lived at Harlow where they farmed and raised their family. She was a teacher at several area schools including Churchs Ferry, Minnewaukan, Brinsmade and Fillmore. After retiring from teaching, Gertrude worked as a home health aide for Benson County Social Services until her retirement.
Gertrude was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Harlow and later Leeds Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies Aid and quilting group.
Surviving are her children: Arvid Lunde of Gillette, WY, Kim Lunde and Kay (Chad) Nelsen both of Leeds; 6 grandchildren: Brad (Amber) Lunde, Quince (Aimee) Lunde and Tony Lunde, Jesse (Kristine) Lunde, Cassie Lunde and Katelyn Nelsen; 5 great-grandchildren: Madison, Drew, Nolen, Ashlyn and Ryan Lunde; sisters-in-law: Sally Lunde and Ruth Lunde both of Leeds, Bernice Lunde of Mason City, IA, Agnes Friestad of Harvey; a brother-in-law: Sam Leishear of Salisbury, MD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband: Arnold; a son: Ronnie; her parents and siblings: Harold, Arne and Burton Friestad and Martha Zyllo.

We were blessed to have known Gertrude for many, many years. She was always "Mrs. Lunde" to me because she was my first grade teacher in Brinsmade. She touched my life permanantly as she taught me to read, instilled in me the love of learning, and certainly went beyond her teaching duties as a warm and caring role model.
