Glenn Hilding Hanson was born May 14, 1937, at Maddock, ND, to Gunder and Helga (Nelson) Hanson.  He attended the Eldon Township rural school.  Glenn served 3 years in the Marines, earning the rank of sergeant and also received his GED while in the military.  Glenn graduated from Minot State College with a degree in psychology.  He married Joyce Vang on December 13, 1958 at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Devils Lake.  They made their home in the Devils Lake, Oberon and Minnewaukan areas and have lived in Devils Lake for the last 33 years.  Glenn was a painting contractor and operated Hanson Painting Service for 40 years with the business now being operated by his sons, Joel and Jeremy.  He was licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church of Devils Lake,  preaching in many area churches, filling in whenever called.

Surviving are his wife:  Joyce of Devils Lake; 5 sons:  Layle (Emy) Hanson of Starkweather, ND,  Brian (Rhesa) Hanson of Fargo,   John (Flora May) Hanson,  Joel (Sheryl) Hanson &  Jeremy (Wendy) Hanson all of Devils Lake;  4 daughters:  Shelly (Dennis) Weed of Minnewaukan, ND,  Connie Ebach of Beaumont, TX,  Charlene Wallace and Cheri Hanson both of Fargo, ND;  17 grandchildren;  9 great-grandchildren;  a sister: Orpha (Duane) Howard of Sheyenne, ND; a half-sister:  Marie Chapman in Washington State; a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  a sister:  Doris Gilbertson;  a half sister:  Dorothy Zieman and 3 half-brothers:  LeRoy,  Marvin and Donald.
