Glenn A.
Tofsrud
Jan 28, 1941 — Jun 23, 2025
Minnewaukan
Glenn Allan Tofsrud, 84, of Minnewakan, ND, passed away on June 23, 2025, peacefully surrounded by his family at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Devils Lake, ND.
Glenn was born on January 28,1941 in rural Churchs Ferry, ND, as the son of Gilbert and Agnes (Vaule) Tofsrud. From that day forward, Glenn grew up and had a love for the land around Churchs Ferry and its surrounding areas. He attended school in Brinsmade and Benson County Agriculture and Training School. In early grade school, he was diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever where he was home schooled for 2 years from the comfort of his own bed. In 1958, he began to farm due to his father's unexpected illness. At that time, he sold his car to buy a combine in which he custom combined in Wales and Sarles, ND close to the Canadian border.
Glenn married Sandra Lynn Haagenson on September 3, 1963 and were the proud parents of Cindy, Allan, Brenda, and Kari Beth. Glenn later enjoyed the rest of his life with his companion, Margaret Jane Brown. Glenn was a steward of the land. Even in "retirement", Glenn remained closely connected to his farm life. He would often share stories from the past with a quiet smile. But nothing brought him more joy than time spent with his family. He had a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren by having sweet treats and continually providing advice to keep them safe.
In later years, as his health began to decline, Glenn found comfort and pride in passing the torch to his grandson, Michael, who has also shared the love of the land tirelessly. Though stepping back was difficult for a man so rooted in the land and when Glenn's health no longer allowed him to continue farming, Michael was able to take over the day-to-day responsibilities, carrying on the family's legacy with the same dedication and care in 2019. Although Glenn was not physically able to tend to the farm, he remained a trusted voice and guiding presence and was always available for advice.
But behind Glenn's gentle smile was a heart that had known deep sorrow. Eleven years ago, Glenn's life was forever changed by the tragic loss of his beloved son, Allan. The grief of that loss never left him, and the weight of grief was something he carried quietly each day. Though he rarely spoke of it, those who knew him best could see it in his eyes. We have no doubt that Allan was waiting patiently for his arrival so memories and endless stories could be shared.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Cindy Rallo-Huffman, Leeds, ND; Brenda Severson and Kari Beth Tofsrud, both of Devils Lake, ND; daughter-in-law DeShawn Tofsrud, Leeds, ND; and companion of many years, Margaret Jane Brown, Minnewaukan, ND; 2 brothers, Roger Tofsrud, Minnewukan, ND and Duane (Lisa) Tofsrud, Minneapolis, MN; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren that he adored more than life itself and his nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death are his son, Allan Tofsrud; his parents, Gilbert and Agnes; his sister, Yvonne Cowan; niece, Theresa Owlboy; and nephew, Troy Tofsrud.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to family, friends, the doctors, nurses, and staff at CHI St. Alexius Hospital for their exceptional care, compassion, and support during Glenn's last couple days. Your kindness and dedication brought comfort to him and to our entire family in a very difficult time.
