Obituary

Grace Lorraine Griffin, 89, of Maddock, ND and formerly of Oberon, ND passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the Maddock Memorial Home in Maddock, ND.  To honor Grace's wishes, no formal services will take place.  A Private Family Graveside Service will be held at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Oberon, ND.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the: Maddock Memorial Home 301 Roosevelt Avenue Maddock, ND 58348.

Grace Lorraine was born March 1, 1933 to Carl and Ruth (Collins) Johnson in Crary, ND.  She attended school in Ramsey County, graduating from Central High School in Devils Lake with the class of 1951.  Grace furthered her education, receiving her Teaching Certificate at Mayville State, and began teaching grade school in Benson County.  As a young girl, Grace liked to roller skate and dance; that is how she met the love of her life, Abie D. Griffin.  The couple was united in marriage on December 25, 1953.

Grace and Abie began farming side by side.  Grace helped milk cows, haying, combining and driving tractors throughout her life.  They raised their family on the farm; Trish, Lonnie, Laudi and Larry.  Grace and Abie enjoyed polka dancing, gardening and canning, and she was also an avid reader.  Abie passed away July 24, 2006.

Grace is survived by her children, Patricia 'Trish' Berube of Bismarck, ND, Lonnie (Tami) Griffin of Maddock, ND, Laudi Griffin of Oberon, ND and Larry (Michelle) Griffin of Devils Lake, ND; grandchildren, Kassandra Engeberg, Levi Griffin, McKenzie Berube and Gannon Griffin; and one great granddaughter.  Grace is also survived by her brother-in-law, Laurin Gilbraith; sisters-in-law, Shirley Nelson, Eileen Ellingson and Doris Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abie D. Griffin; her parents, Carl and Ruth Johnson; her sister, Carol Gilbraith; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.
