Obituary

Hal Warren Paulson, 61, of Maddock, ND, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND after falling and breaking his shoulder and femur at the farm house several weeks earlier. These injuries resulted later in congestive heart failure and other complications, which were the cause of his death.  Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the Viking Lutheran Church in rural Maddock, ND with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM followed by 7:00 PM Prayer Service Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at the Viking Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Viking Lutheran Church: P.O. Box 219 Maddock, ND 58348.

Hal Warren Paulson was born on May 12, 1958, at Maddock ND, to Arland and Thelma (Vikander) Paulson. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Maddock, and graduated from Maddock High School in 1975.

Hal learned basic auto mechanic and welding skills at the High School shop classes. He learned additional auto mechanic skills by attending the Wahpeton State School of Science from 1977 to 1978, and worked as a service station mechanic in Fargo after graduation.

He also attended the East Grand Forks Technical College in 1980, for semi-truck driving, and obtained his CDL license at that time. He then worked for Pro Transport Company and Magnum Trucking Company for many years, and hauled freight to many locations in the United States.

He also worked many years for various local contractors, at repairing and replacing roofs, and doing other types of carpentry work, on many houses, barns, and other farm buildings in the Maddock area.

He was especially good with pets and other animals, who could somehow sense his love and concern for them (and animals are a good judge of a person's character). Also, children were also drawn to, and very much liked Hal.

Hal had a love for antiques, old classic cars, trucks, tractors, and other vehicles. He bought, sold, and collected many of them during his lifetime.

Survivors are three brothers: Lanny Paulson of Maddock, Clark (Tammi) Paulson of Hillsboro, and Jaimy (Susan) Paulson of Grand Forks; nieces and nephews, Aaron Abrahamson of Britton, SD (son of Jaimy and Sandi), Zane Paulson of Maddock, ND (son of Arlie and Mary Abrahamson), Mindi (Doug) Lill of Langdon, ND (daughter of Clark and Tammi), Cayle (Ashleyana) Paulson of Harvey, ND (son of Clark and Tammi)

Preceding him in death were his parents, Arland and Thelma, his older brother Arlie, his paternal grand-parents: Helmer and Gena Paulson, and maternal grand-parents: Harold Nelson, and Minnie (Vikander) Nelson.
