Hargus Nelson, 82, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at the Heart of America Medical Center Hospital in Rugby, North Dakota at the age of 82 years. Graveside services will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, in Flint, Michigan at a later date. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock and Watkins Brothers Funeral Home of Durand, Michgian are in charge of the arrangements.
Hargus Nelson was born July 12, 1930 at Prestonsburg, KY, the son of Hiland and Martha (Osborne) Nelson. He was raised and educated in Floyd County, Kentucky. Hargus was employed as a factory worker and sales in Kentucky, Ohio and Michigan until ill health forced his retirement. He married Ida Mae Iverson on November 29, 1947 in Paintsville, Kentucky. She died July 2, 1979.
He attended the United Baptist Church in Prestonsburg and the Twin City Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. During the past several years, Hargus has lived in Esmond, ND and cared for by his daughter-in-law: Anna Nelson.
Survivors include a son: Hargus Ray Nelson of Durand, Michigan; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister: Mary Ellen Powers of Leander Kentucky and brothers: Don and Ed Nelson both of Prestonsburg, Kentucky.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife: Ida Mae; sons: Ronald, William and Dennis Nelson; a daughter: Linda Mae Simpson and brothers: Arvel, Grady, Sam, Will, Ted and Jack.
