Helen Carpenter's Obituary
Helen Kuk Carpenter was born April 5, 1915 on a farm southwest of Bantry, ND, the fifth of eleven children born to Jozef and Anna (Wojeck) Kuk. She attended 2 years of school at Bantry. The family moved to Wager Township where she attended the township school through the eighth grade. Helen graduated from the Bantry High School in May of 1933 and then worked various jobs until graduating on June 16th 1938 from the Christie Beauty School in Bismarck. She was employed as a hairdresser at Leeds and later at Towner. Helen married Leland "Ole" Carpenter on April 8, 1942. They moved to Tacoma, WA where she attended the Hawthorne Welding School, passing the qualification exam on February 10, 1944. Helen was a welder at the Seattle Tacoma Shipbuilding Corporation and later worked as a pressure pipe welder until the close of World War II. From 1960 until her death, she had been employed at the Towner Nursery. Helen received a number of awards, and there were several articles written about her work ethic and 52 years of employment at the Towner Nursery. Leland "Ole" Carpenter died September 3, 1978.
Helen was a member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Altar Society and Christian Mothers. She was also a life member of the Towner VFW Auxiliary. Helen will be remembered for doing things her way. She enjoyed outdoor work in her yard, decorating for Christmas, sewing for her daughters, embroidering and baking, especially pies.
She is survived by her children: Darryl Carpenter (Ellen Thompson) of Laurel, MT, Carole (Michael) Lysne of Minnewaukan, ND and Renee Carpenter of Devils Lake; 7 grandchildren: Travis Carpenter, Conrad Schell, Nicole Parker, Dawn VanSteenvoort, Amber Schell, Heather Brown and Brian Lysne; and 11 great-grandchildren: Tanner Schell, Hannah VanSteenvoort, Jacinda Schell, Caden Parker, MaKayla VanSteenvoort, Emma VanSteenvoort, Arionna Schell, Averi VanSteenvoort, Madyn Parker, Lucas Carpenter and Jack Carpenter.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband; parents; siblings: Mary Coss, Anton Kuk, Louis Kuk, John Kuk, Stanley Kuk, Frank Kuk, Sophie Natwick, Bernice McPherson, Joseph Kuk and Lottie Suss; and several nieces and nephews.

It has been so many years since our Makoti days but I remember so well your mother and father. I have often wondered where they moved and their well being. I'm so sorry for the death of your mother but wish you a lifetime of memories to celebrate.
