Helen Elizabeth Garman, 82, of Flora, ND passed away Friday May 11, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society in Devils Lake, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at the St. Williams Catholic Church in Maddock, ND with Fr. Brian Bachmeier celebrating mass. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Minnewaukan, ND.
Helen Elizabeth Lesmeister was born on December 29, 1935 to George and Martina (Sitter) Lesmeister in Rugby, ND. She attended school in Rugby and graduated high school in 1953. Helen was united in marriage to Andrew Garman on September 23, 1957 in Rugby. The couple farmed near Oberon, ND until moving to Flora, ND in 1984, when ill health forced Andrew's retirement.
Helen was a hard working wife who raised her five children and loved to care for her family. She enjoyed upholstery work, gardening and playing cards. Helen was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church in Maddock and a former member of St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan and American Legion Auxiliary.
Helen is survived by her four sons: Garey (Tammy) Garman of Waseca, MN, Gregory (Albina) Garman of North Pole, AK, Brian (Marie) Garman of Watertown, SD and Darryl Garman of Grand Forks, ND; a daughter, Glory Nietfeld of Winnebago, MN; 11 grandchildren: Andrew, Christian, Daniel, Christopher, Justin, Seth and Heather Garman, Johnny Frazier, Crystal Nietfeld, Tiara Nietfeld and Lacey Nietfeld; great-granddaughters, Arya Garman and Shadow Garman; 3 step-grandchildren: Bill Whittle, Tami Parker and Jaime Davis; 3 step-great-grandchildren: Carter, Tucker and Summer Parker; siblings: Donald Lesmeister of Cedar Rapids, IA, David Lesmeister of Bonner Springs, KS, Beatrice Hoffert of Rugby, ND and Patricia Hoggarth of Fargo, ND.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Garman; parents, George and Martina (Sitter) Lesmeister; sister, Bonnie Harmel.
