Helen Rasmussen's Obituary
Helen M. Rasmussen, 88, of New Rockford formerly of Maddock, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford. Memorial Services will be Tuesday, November 29, 2011, 2:00 PM at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford with Pastor Debra Lommen officiating. Burial will be in North Viking Cemetery at Maddock. Urn bearers will be Gunnar and Grant Hagen. Music will be from Yoli Slater and Arlyss Bergrud, vocalists with Jennifer Hagen, organist.
Helen May Rasmussen was born October 5th, 1923, on the family farm in Hesper Twp, rural Maddock, ND to John, Sr. and Clara (Erickson) Rasmussen. She attended elementary school and two years of high school at Hesper and graduated in 1942 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock. Helen then attended college in Minot and taught school for a short time. She started working as a nurses aide in 1946, first in Britton, SD, later working at Wright's Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN, Memorial Hospital in Maddock and at the hospital and nursing home in Pelican Rapids, MN. Helen returned to Maddock in 1969, where she lived at the family farm with her parents during the summers and had an apartment at the Moeller Units in Maddock for seventeen years. She then moved to the Memorial Home in Maddock and for the past thirteen years, resided at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford.
Helen was baptized and confirmed at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock and was currently a member of Bethany Evangelical Free Church in Esmond. In her earlier years, she taught Sunday school and was treasurer of the Free Church Women's Missionary Group for several years.
Helen is survived by a brother: John (Joyce) Rasmussen of Maddock; three sisters: Anna Rasmusson of Fergus Falls, MN, Alice Pierson of Kalispell, MT and Donna (Henry) Buletti of Meredith, NH; a sister-in-law: Juanice Laystrom of Barrington, IL; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: John & Clara Rasmussen; two brothers: Roy and Donald Rasmussen; two brothers-in-law: Helmer Pierson and Gordon Rasmusson.
