Henry S. Pfeifer, 94, of Esmond, ND passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Heart of America Care Center in Rugby, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM Monday, September 12, 2016 at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, ND with Fr. Brian Bachmeier celebrating the mass. Visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00PM Sunday, September 11, 2016 at the church with a 7:00PM Rosary followed by a 7:30PM Vigil Service. Burial will take place at the St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Esmond, ND. Music will be provided by Helen Arnold and the St. Boniface Choir. Casket Bearers will be Duane Pfeifer, Dale Pfeifer, Everett Hoffner, Leon Pfeifer, Larry Bickler and Roger Voeller. Military Honors will be provided by the Esmond VFW Post #4251, Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #123 and the North Dakota Military Honor Guard.

Henry S. Pfeifer was born November 4, 1921 in Wellsburg, ND to Sebastian and Veronica (Thomas) Pfeifer. He attended country school by Wellsburg for eight years. Henry farmed with his parents until he entered the Armed Forces in 1942. He served as an Army Air Force Military Police Officer in England and on the mainland of Europe before being sent back to the US in July of 1945. Henry was headed for Japan in August of 1945 when the war ended. He was honorably discharged from active duty in December of 1945. Henry and his brother, Casper, bought the former Keenan Brothers farm from Hazel Dysart in 1946.

Henry married Anne Voeller, daughter of Michael and Agatha (Schneider) Voeller of Silva, ND on June 21, 1948 at the Mount Carmel Church in Balta, ND. The couple retired from farming in 1996 and moved to Esmond in February of 2011. Henry was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, life member of the Esmond VFW Post #4251, life member of the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #123 in Maddock, ND, member of the Eagles Club in Harvey, ND and served on the Hesper Township board.

Henry was survived by his wife of 68 years, Anne; sisters, Irene Senger of Yakima, WA, Theresa Hoffner of Devils Lake, ND and Lydia Muscha of Fargo, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents Sebastian and Veronica (Thomas) Pfeifer; brothers, Casper, Albert, Raymond, Fabian and August.
