Ida M. Olson, 94, of Devils Lake and formerly of Minnewaukan, ND, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, September 5th, 2010, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Minnewaukan and Sunday at the church an hour before the funeral.

Ida Margrette Beck was born November 20, 1915 to Anton & Oline (Bratvold) Beck in their home south of Albert Immanuel Church, rural Maddock. Ida spoke Norwegian until she started first grade at the Albert Twp. School. She attended the Maddock Public School for her freshman year and then moved to Minnewaukan to live with her sister, Bertha & Ed Schmid and family where she graduated from the Minnewaukan High School in 1934. Ida moved to Oberon and worked for A.E. & Olivia Barko in their store. She met a young man, Holger Olson, when he came to the store to buy milk & shoelaces. They were married June, 4, 1937 at the home of Rev. A.M. Swanson in Sheyenne with Geneva Tweten & Martin Olson as attendants. The couple boarded the train (known as the "Goose") for a honeymoon in Jamestown. They celebrated their 70th wedding on June 4, 2007. In 1950, Ida began her career with the Benson County Social Services and worked there until retiring in 1987. Ida and Holger lived in Minnewaukan until moving to Devils Lake. They enjoyed visiting with family, bowling, playing cards and in later years going to the casino. Following Holger's death on Sept. 14, 2007, Ida continued to live at Heartland Court until moving to the Odd Fellows Home in Devils Lake. She became a resident of Heartland Care Center in June 2009.

Survivors include her daughters: Deanna Hanson & Ginny (Gary) Sears, both of Minnewaukan; sons: John (Donna) Olson & Mike (Cindy Moe) Olson of Devils Lake and Bill (Norma) Olson of Olympia, WA; grandchildren: Nancy (John Frith)Thompson, Cheri Hanson, Jill (Tom Lang) Schafer, Terry (Brian) Williams, Tim (Jennifer) Olson, Tani (Jeff) McLean, Troy (Lisa) Olson, David Sears, Jim Sears, Jerry (Marianne) Sears & Mary (Quentin Provancial) Sears, Bill (Lisa) Olson & Bob (Sylvia) Olson; great-grandchildren: Mitch & Brittany Weed, Brant Hanson, Alex, Lauren & Shelby Williams, Jack & Kate Olson, Hannah, Callie & Sophia McLean, Erica Olson, Tyler, Quentin, Spencer & Madyson Sears, John, Katherine, Maria & Emily Sears, Gabe, Chantelle, John, Brandon & Shania DuBois, Chase & Gunnar Olson, Allyssa (Danny) Ketter & Skylar Olson; a great-great grandson: Cade Weed; a brother: Stephen (Mary) Beck of Everett, WA; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Holger; grandsons: Tom Oscar Hanson & Joel Andrew Sears; her brothers: Alvin, Fred, Con, Einer, Harold, Rudy & Phillip; sisters: Alvilde, Elsie, Agnes, Bertha & Olivia; mother-in-law: Anny Olson and a special brother-in-law: Martin Olson.

I am very sorry I was out of town and did not learn of the funeral until I returned. know that had i been home i would have attended the services. a long time ago we shared some special time together sitting on the shore of round lake. that was a very special time and i will always remember it as a special time in my life time. may help of the lord be with you at this time and your memories help you accept the lose of ida. mark j motis
