Irene Plum's Obituary
Irene V. Plum, 83, of Arthur, ND, formerly of Maddock, ND died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Arthur Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at North Viking Lutheran Church with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Casket bearers will be: Wayne Randle, Sherman Sandbo, Mark Peihl, Ryan Johnson, Ken Plum and Chad Reinstra. Music will be from Lois Ewertz, soloist with Rachel Markestad, organist.
Irene V. Johnson was born February 17, 1930 at Mose, ND to John and Nellie (Haugen) Johnson. She attended grade school at Mose and graduated from high school at Hunter, ND. Irene later graduated from Jamestown College and taught elementary education at Rolla, Wahpeton, Valley City and Maddock. She married Howard Plum on August 15, 1959 at the Blanchard Lutheran Church at Blanchard, ND. They moved to Maddock in 1961 and taught at the Maddock School. In 1974, they purchased Milde's Hardware Store in Maddock. Howard passed away November 19, 1994. Irene continued to operate the hardware store until turning it over to her son Jeff. She moved to the Arthur Good Samaritan Center in the fall of 2011.
She had been a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church and WELCA since 1962. Irene enjoyed teaching elementary education, crossword puzzles and floral gardening.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law: Richard and Connie Plum of Mapleton, ND; a daughter: Cathy Rienstra of Fargo; 2 grandchildren: Callie Rienstra and Ryan Johnson; 2 great-grandchildren: Chris and Evelyn; a sister: Bernice Peihl of Arthur and a brother: Jim (Ruth) Johnson of Blanchard, ND.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son: Jeffrey; sisters: Judy Johnson, Katherine Petrie, Harriet Sandbo and Helen Sandbo.
