Irene Streifel, 85, of Minnewaukan, ND, passed away at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 25, 2017 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake, ND with Very Rev. C.F. Wilhelm celebrating. Visitation will begin at 12:30 PM at the church prior to the service with Rosary at 1:30 PM. Music will be provided by JoDee Lagein and Lynne Webster. Burial will be held at the St. James Catholic Cemetery in Minnewaukan, ND.

Irene Streifel was born February 26, 1932 to George and Mary (Dexhimer) Schmaltz in Rolette, ND. In 1945 she moved with her parents from Rolette to the Normania Township north of Minnewaukan. Irene attended school at Cleveland Grade School in Rolette County and Churches Ferry. On June 15, 1954, Irene was united in marriage to Paul Streifel in the St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan. The couple lived in Minnewaukan until April 1957 and then moved to Wood Lake in Benson County.

In 1976 the couple returned to Minnewaukan where they made their home. Together they raised five children, Steven, David, Cathy, Debra and Roger. Irene dedicated her life to her family and was a homemaker for the majority of her life. She worked for the Little Flower Home for Girls in Minnewaukan and also worked part time at the Minnewaukan Public School. Irene was an active member of the St. James Catholic Church in Minnewaukan and was currently a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devils Lake.

Irene is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul; children, Steven Streifel of Grand Forks, ND, David (Ellen) Streifel of Rochester, MN, Cathy Streifel of West Lafayette, IN, Debra Harper of Minnewaukan, ND and Roger Streifel of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Erica (Matt) Gustafson, Nikki Streifel and Dan Streifel; siblings, Lucille (Warren) Anderson of Devils Lake, ND, Marian Thompson of Motley, MN, Phil (Linda) Schmaltz of Devils Lake, ND, Dan (Nikki) Schmaltz of Fargo, ND, Charles (Julie) Schmaltz of Devils Lake, ND and Margaret (Ray) Heisler of Denver, CO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mary (Dexhimer) Schmaltz; siblings, Georgia Seboe, Agnes Hager and Jeanette Heisler.
