Obituary

John M. Buckmier, 82, of Minnewaukan, ND passed away Saturday, November 14, 2020 at Sanford Broadway Medical Center in Fargo, ND. A Private Family Service will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND. Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Minnewaukan. Military Honors will be provided by Theodore A. Togstad Post #123 Maddock American Legion and North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

John Martin Buckmier was born August 1, 1938 in Maddock to Sebastian and Regina (Hoffart) Buckmier. He grew up on the family farm near Minnewaukan and graduated from Minnewaukan High School. After high school, John worked in construction, building cement grain elevators and also working at Boeing's in Washington. John enlisted into the United States Army on January 23, 1962 as a medic and was honorably discharged January 29, 1963.

John married the love of his life, Judith Ellingson, of Minnewaukan on July 16, 1964. He managed grain elevators for 15 years before moving to the present day farm where he retired. John enjoyed reading, listening to polka music, telling jokes and exploring the internet/e-mail.

John is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith; children, Robert (Dennette) Of Maddock, daughter, Shannon of Fargo and son, Randy of Devils Lake; 8 grandchildren, Adam (Dawn) Aanderud, Mikel (Mikkel), Blake, Jordyn, Joshua, Jessica, Megan and Kolton Buckmier; 3 great-grandchildren, Keaton, Elias and Payson; siblings, Beatrice Hahn of Grand Forks, Shirley Mager of Indiana and Raymond (Bette) of Devils Lake; sisters-in-law, Jane (David) Holje of Maddock and Patty (Gary) McCloud of Minnewaukan; many nieces, nephews; his dog, Candy and his cat, Buddy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sebastian and Regina Buckmier; father and mother in-law, Vernon and Irene Eillingson; two sisters, Mary Parker and Bevery Huus; infant daughter, Rhonda.
