John B. "Buck" Waanatan, 47, of St. Michael, ND began his journey to the spirit world on Saturday, November 23, 2019 suddenly at his home. The Wake for John will begin at 5:00 PM Monday, December 2, 2019 at the St. Michael Wellness Center. The procession to St. Michael will leave from the Four Winds High School Parking Lot at 4:30 PM Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at the St. Michael Center with Fr. Paul Schuster celebrating.  Burial will take place at the St. Michael Catholic Cemetery.

Casket Bearers will be: Jason LaRock, Johnny Gaking, Donavon Lambert, Robbie Cavanaugh, Paul Cavanaugh, Jerry Cook, Benny Mudgett, Wayne Comer, Johnny Waanatan and Jody Gaking.

John was born December 22, 1971 at the Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake, ND to Lila M. Waanatan and John H. Anderson. He attended grade school at the Little Flower School in St. Michael, seventh and eighth grade at Wahpeton Indian School and attended high school at Four Winds. In 1990, John met the love of his life, Kilreen Reynolds, and mother of his four children: Tyler, Tanner, Courtney and Kari. John worked in maintenance with the Dakota Tribal Institute, the Spirit Lake Refuge and Spirit Lake Casino. John then met his one special friend, Valentina Martin, who was his honey sugar he like to call her.

John was a caring, loving and thoughtful person well known throughout the community. John loved to joke around with those he knew and loved. He had a sweet tooth for different kinds of candies and his favorite dish was spaghetti. John loved to do to the community college and read the newspaper and watch sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings. His greatest past time was spent with his children and grandchildren that he loved so much.

John is survived by his mother, Lila M. Anderson; children, Tyler, Courtney, Tanner and Kari; grandchildren, Rylee, Hayden and Easton; brother, Titus; sisters, Kelly, Nicole and Merideth; aunts, Debera, Loreen, Rena, Melody, and Maxine; grandmothers, Helena, Libby Little Ghost, Elaine Roberson and Pauline Grey Water; auntie/mom, Debra Cavanaugh; great uncle, Eugene Hedine.

John was preceded in death by his father, John H. Anderson; grandparents, Delores and John Anderson; aunties, Tracey Anderson, Sherry Anderson, Sharon Anderson, Patricia Anderson, Cheryl Fox and Stephanie Charboneau; uncles, Blaine Anderson, Chris Anderson, Leslie Waanatan,, Eddie Waanatan, William Waanatan; cousins, Little Chris Cavanaugh, Chad Buckles, Amber Langstaff, Little Lary Schweitzer, Neil Greywater, Delvin Greywater and Donny Greywater.
