Judy Kay Sabbe, 75, of Leeds, ND passed away Sunday, August 21, 2022 at Augusta Place in Bismarck, ND under the care of Sanford Hospice. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Sharon Baker officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be at Churchs Ferry Cemetery.  Everyone is welcome to stream the funeral service through the Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: 5125 49th Avenue NE York, ND 58386.

Judy was born January 12, 1947 to Spencer and Marie – "Aunt Bee" (Johnson) Sabbe in Cando, ND.  She was raised and educated in Churchs Ferry and resided there for over 50 years.  Judy was active in Church Ferry, working at the Churchs Ferry School in the kitchen and as a member and officer of the Churchs Ferry Alumni Association.  The Alumni Association was very important to her and she enjoyed collecting donations and prizes for the annual Churchs Ferry Days, as well as donating an Afghan baby blanket she made herself and a Christmas quilt, for the raffle every year.

Judy and her mom moved to Leeds in 2000, when the flood waters of Devils Lake threatened Churchs Ferry. She worked for a short time at the Leeds Pasta Plant and the Leeds Public School.  She was also a former Sunday school teacher at Leeds Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church in Churchs Ferry.  Judy was a member of the WELCA in both Leeds and Churchs Ferry, the Leeds Lutheran Church Quilting Group, the Bible study group and the Leeds 55 Club.

Judy was very gifted in crafts and enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting.  She loved making Christmas wreaths and newborn infant Afghan blankets for her many dear friends.  She was also a big Minnesota Twins fan, with Byron Buxton being her favorite player.  Judy was also known for the donuts she would bring to various events, especially Churchs Ferry Days.

It was a huge moment in Judy's life to leave the quiet life of Churchs Ferry and move to Leeds, but she adapted well. There was not one mean or divisive bone in Judy's body and she lived her life as she wanted. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, and not seem the same without her walking around town, being at Cen-Dak every morning or attending Leeds events.

Judy is survived by her cat and faithful companion Tigress, her cousins and many wonderful and loyal friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents Spencer and Marie Sabbe; paternal grandparents Hover and Clara Sabbe; maternal grandparents Oscar and Alma Johnson; and aunts Olga Gustafson, Lydia Elverude and Myrtle Bauerle.
