Kari B. Tofsrud, 51, of Devils Lake, ND, passed away Friday, September 18 2026, under comfort care at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after she became ill. Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2026 at the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel in Leeds, ND. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at the Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery in Minnewaukan, ND.

Kari Beth Tofsrud was born August 12, 1975 in Rugby, ND, to Glen and Sandra (Haagenson) Tofsrud in Rugby, ND. She spent the first few years of her childhood living in Rugby before relocating with her Mother and sisters to North Bend, WA in 1978. She then moved to Snohomish, WA in 1987. She attended school at Gordon Hauck in Kirkland, WA before moving to Moses Lake, WA where she lived and was cared for by Cindy. She eventually returned to North Dakota with her family in 2002. She lived with her Sister Cindy, and Nieces Ashley, Kylee and Chelsea for many years of her life from 1989-2006. After the passing of her mother, Kari’s medical needs began to require a higher level of care and she moved to a home in New Rockford, ND in 2006. She enjoyed her time in New Rockford before moving one last time to Devils Lake, ND in 2023 where she was closer to her sister and guardian, Brenda Severson as well as other family members. She was well loved and cared for by all of the staff at Lake Region Corporation.

Kari enjoyed music and simple comforts. She was bubbly, stubborn, and full of character. She taught everyone around her compassion, patience, and empathy, she was loved by everyone. Her laugh will be remembered by all that knew her.

Kari was baptized at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, Minnewaukan, ND.

Severson of Minto, ND, Madeline (Lane) Ritterman of Leeds, ND, Cassandra Severson of Fargo, ND, Makenna Tofsrud of Leeds, ND; great nieces and nephews: Joseph, Kaiden Huffman, Tucker Watson, Trey Torgenson, Harley Torgerson, Alvyn Tofsrud, Easton Tofsrud, Cohen Tofsrud, Tinley Tofsrud, Tallan Tofsrud, Townes Tofsrud, Tatum Altendorf; uncles: Duane (Lisa) Tofsrud of Roseville, MN, Larry (Jan) Haagenson of Loveland, CO , Paul (Cheryl) Haagenson of Fargo, ND and Glen Tofsrud (fathers long term partner) Jane Brown of Devils Lake, ND.

Kari was proceeded in death by her mother (Sandra Tofsrud), father (Glen Tofsrud), brother (Allan Tofsrud). Boyd Haagenson (Elna) and Madelyn Hayes (grandparents of Sandra’s side); Paternal grandparents, Gilbert and Agnes Tofsrud; step grandmother (Elna Haagenson);aunts and uncles, Roger Tofsrud, Rabecca Thompson and Evonne Cowan.
