Keith D. Hakanson was born at Maddock, ND, to Donald and Phyllis (Carlson) Hakanson on August 25th, 1944.  He attended school at Maddock and graduated in 1962 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School.  He continued his education at the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton graduating with a degree in refrigeration and air conditioning technology.  Following graduation from Wahpeton, he assumed his father's business, Don's Service in Maddock.  He began farming and later became involved with Service and Parts, a farm implement business in Maddock.  The business later evolved into Ag Resources in which he was a current partner.  On August 6, 1982, he married Beverly Huber at Klara Lutheran Church, rural Heimdal, ND.

Keith was a baptized and confirmed member of North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock.  He had also served as a deacon of the church and was a charter member of the Maddock Jaycees.  Keith loved music and in the 1960's was a member of the Lee Sterling Quartet, playing the saxophone for many area dances.   He enjoyed golf,  deer hunting, fishing, boating and in his younger years, swimming.

He is survived by his wife:  Beverly;  4 step-children:  Jay (Leanna) Roberts of Globe, AZ,  Michelle (Floyd) Wahl of Dickinson, ND;  James (Beth) Roberts and Steve (Cathy) Roberts all of Sierra Vista, AZ;  15 grandchildren;  one great-grandchild;  his mother:  Phyllis Hakanson of Maddock;  a brother:  Larry (Val) Hakanson of New Rockford, ND;  2 sisters:  Peggy Ritchie of Sacramento, CA and Laurie (Dave) Warner of Great Falls, MT;  2 nieces and 4 nephews.

Keith was preceded in death by his father in 2001;  maternal grandparents:  Ed and Emma Carlson;  paternal grandparents:  Hjalmer and Mabel Hakanson.
