Obituary

Keith I. Haugen, 76, formerly of Maddock, ND, passed away Thursday March 2, 2023 at the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND.  Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND with Pastor Cassie Borges officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be held at Fron Cemetery in rural Maddock, ND. Military Honors will be provided by Theodore Togstad American Legion Post #123 of Maddock, ND, Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #757 of Harlow, ND and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.

Keith was born on April 8, 1946 to Ingman and Myrtle Haugen in Maddock, ND.  He grew up on the farm, where he learned the value of hard work, self-reliance, and resourcefulness. He was always ready to lend a helping hand.  Keith maintained an active lifestyle that included golfing, bike riding, dancing, card playing, his beloved coffee klatch, vacations in Arizona, and spending time with family and friends.  He gave generously to the Lord's work, including many donations to North Viking Church where he was confirmed, and toward the maintenance of the Fron Church Cemetery grounds near Maddock, where many ancestors were charter members and were buried.

After graduating from Maddock High in 1964, Keith enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Radio Mechanic.  He served on the USS Wainwright during the Viet Nam war until he was honorably discharged in 1968.  He settled in the Fargo area, working for US West Communications for 30 years in phone installation and cable maintenance.  After retiring, he did lawn care and handyman work.  He was a Life Member of the AMVETS and a 50 year member of the American Legion.

Keith will be missed by his brothers, Gene (Janis) Haugen and Duane (Candy) Haugen, his son, Chad (Heather) Carr, and 2 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and all who called him friend.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Haugen, father Ingman, and mother Myrtle.  We will miss his ready wit but take comfort in knowing he is beside his mom and dad at Fron Cemetery, his final resting place.
