Obituary

Laurie Jean Aubol, 48, of Evans, Colorado, formerly of Walhalla and Grafton, ND, passed away died Friday, August 14th, 2009, surrounded by her family at her mother's home in Nash, ND and under the care of Altru Hospice.

Laurie was born to Robert J. and Barbara J. (Moore) Dumas July 7, 1961. She grew up in the Walhalla area and graduated from Walhalla High School in 1979.  As a teenager she worked at Thompsons's Bakery and the Pembilier Nursing Center in Walhalla. She later moved to Grafton and worked at Hardee's, the Developmental Center, and Friendship Inc.  Laurie Attended AVTI in East Grand Forks, 1986-87, and graduated as a medical assistant.  In 1989 she married Steven Aubol. They had one daughter Nicole Jean.  In 2000, she made a trip to Colorado and was enthralled by the Rocky Mountain State, later that year she and Nicole moved to Greeley, CO to make it there home.  Laurie loved to hike in the mountains and when she was no longer able to do this Nicole would take them on road trips to the mountains.   Laurie's love for her daughter kept her going when she was so very ill.  Her greatest joy in life was to see Nicole reach some of life's milestones. In 2007, they relocated to Evans, CO.  During the time she lived in Colorado, she worked as a medical assistant in a doctor's office until her health prevented her from continuing. She then worked as a program director for individuals with disabilities until she was forced to resign due to her failing health.

Laurie bravely fought debilitating diseases for a number of years and had spent the past 2 ½ months in the University of Colorado Hospital in Denver.  When no further treatment could help her, her wish was to return home to North Dakota to be with her family during her final days.  Hospital and hospice staff made the arrangements for her to flown back home. During the flight, she was accompanied by Nicole and her dear friend, Jackie Baxter. Laurie arrived on August 12 and went home to Heaven on August 14, surrounded in love by her daughter, parents, sister, brother, nephew and 3 nieces.

and prayers go out to you in your time of sorrow.
Laurie was a very good emailing friend, coworker, and person. I enjoyed the
time we spent together and before she left for Colorado she came to my home
and entrusted me with a couple of her plants which to this day are still
with me. Virginia Barta

Barb,Cindy,Nikki and other family, Our Deepest sympathy to all of you. So very sorry to hear of your loss. Were'nt you just at the c- store getting a fishing lic. Just seems so wrong to loose someone so young, we never know why but then God has his reasons for everything , doesn't HE. Laurie was a great gal to work with at the nursing home and lots of laughs were shared by all and that's how I will remember her laughing and having a good time. LouAnn and family

I was shocked to hear of Laurie's passing and wanted to send my condolences to all of her family, and let you know that you are in my prayers. Laurie was two years ahead of Cindy and I in school and was a classmate of my sister. Know that Laurie is watching over you and will continue to love you from heaven. Be strong for each other and for Nicole. Bless you all. Anita Fernandez

My goodness, this morning when i came to work, after setting up ...... I always take a stroll through the obits, (habit) ! I couldnt believe, seeing Lauries face staring at me! Memories, started to flood my mind, our class, the nursing home, the old ford, but more than anything, i remember, Lauries gentleness, her wisdom, and her love for her family and friends. Cindy, you and Laurie were not just sisters but friends, and i know that bond will always remain in your heart. Nicole, I can say to you, your mother was the best, as you well know! She loved life, she held her thoughts usually within herself, but i tell you what, i know you were her special gift. She will remain in the hearts of many, please know you all are in my thoughts and in my prayers! Bee Ann Forte
