Leo Marquart, 84, of Esmond and Maddock, ND, died Saturday, May 21, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 28th, 2011, 1:00 PM at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond with Fr. Brian Bachmeier, celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11am to 1pm at the church. Casket bearers will be: Randy Keller, Dale Sorenson, Todd Sorenson, Scott Sorenson, Jeff Sorenson, Richard Lynne and Gary Wald. Honorary bearers will be the members of St Boniface Catholic Church, St. Williams Catholic Church, Lou Lunde, the staff and residents of the Maddock Memorial Home. Music will be from Jane Wolfe, vocalist with Helen Arnold, organist. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
Leo was born February 22, 1927, at Orrin, ND, to Balzer and Magdalena (Setter) Marquart. The family moved to Esmond where Leo attended school. He employed in Esmond at the Jensen Tree Nursery and Ove Lunde Construction for many years. In later years he cared for his mother until her death. Leo became a resident on May 25th, 2001 at the Memorial Home in Maddock. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond.
Surviving are 2 brothers: Joe (Darlene) Marquart of Devils Lake and John Marquart of Williston; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend: Mike Fritel of Maddock. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Tony and Bennie; sisters: Kathryn Keller and Victoria Sorenson.
