Obituary

Lillian Hegland, 100, of New Rockford formerly of Maddock, ND, died Monday, February 25, 2013, at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.  Funeral Services will be March 23, 2013,  11:00 AM at Viking Lutheran Church rural Maddock, with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Casket bearers will be:  Doug Arnston,  Dean Erickson,  Francis Hellerud,  Kenny Hellerud,  Dean Lindgren and Mike Paulson.  Music for the service will be from Joann Bergrud, soloist and Paula Duren, Organist.  Visitation will be Friday, March 22, 2013, from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.

Lillian Myhre was born to Oscar and Emma (Ulness) Myhre on February 22, 1913 on the family farm in Gates Township, rural Sheyenne, ND.  She was baptized and confirmed at Grandfield Lutheran Church and educated at the Gates Township rural school.  She worked on the family farm until her marriage to Bjarne Nelson on October 6, 1937.  The couple worked on a farm near Devils Lake, later farmed west of Viking Lutheran Church and in 1946, bought his family's homestead.  They farmed until Bjarne's death in 1967.  Lillian  then managed the Maddock Hotel during the winter months for several years, returning to the farm in the spring.  On May 26, 1973, Lillian and Morris Hegland were married at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock.  They bought a home in Maddock in 1974, later moved to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd Heritage House Assisted Living Apartments in New Rockford.  Morris passed away June 14, 2006.

Lillian was an active member of Viking Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and a member its WELCA.  She also was a member of the Maddock Sons of Norway, Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Auxiliary and several Homemakers Clubs.  She enjoyed Square Dancing and spending time with her family.

Surviving are a son:  Loren Nelson of New Rockford;  granddaughter:  Talia Nelson of Grand Forks;  sisters-in-law:  Norma Myhre of Hillsboro and Sylvia Myhre of New Rockford  and a number of nieces and nephews.

Lillian passed away  was preceded in death by her parents,  husbands, a daughter:  Debra Kay Nelson; an infant son;  brothers:  Oliver,  Morris,  Clifford  and  Osborne Myhre.
