Obituary

Lillian E. Hvinden, 83, Maddock, ND passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, ND. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 10:00am at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND with Pastor Allan Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the Viking Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock. Visitation will be on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 6pm to 7pm with a 7pm Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Casket bearers will be: Bruce Georgeson, Suzi Olson, Trevor Severtson, Eric Hvinden, Mike Flick, Gordy Severtson, Aprille Hvinden, and Miranda Hvinden. Honorary casket bearers will be grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lillian Olson Severtson Hvinden was born on September 20, 1931 at Maddock, ND to parents Oscar and Selma (Pederson) Olson. She attended the Maddock Grade School, and Maddock High School as a freshman and sophomore. She graduated from BCATS in 1949. She attended Minot State College and obtained a teacher's certificate. She taught three years at The Norway Lake School otherwise known as Faleide School and three years at The Hamberg School. Lillian married Robert Severtson in December of 1952. To this union, two children were born, namely Robert (Bob) and Sally. Her husband Robert Severtson passed away in 1962. Lillian Severtson and Curtis Hvinden were married on November 29, 1980 at the North Viking Lutheran Church at Maddock.
Lillian is survived by her husband, Curtis Hvinden; a son, Robert (Bob) Severtson; a daughter, Sally (Keith) Mix; step-children: Steven (Sandra) Hvinden, James (Jonelle) Hvinden, Sandra (Jacob) Hoffner, Susan (Aaron) McFerran and Mark Hvinden; 15 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; sisters: Ilene Georgeson and Phyllis Carrigan.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert; her parents and brothers: Sherman Olson and Stanley Olson.
Lillian was employed as a clerk at the US Post Office in Maddock for 19 years. Lillian was a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, Mollargutten Lodge Sons of Norway, South Viking Homemakers Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Maddock Tops Club No. 91. She loved to dance, doing crossword puzzles, her cat (Boy), going to the Casino for concerts, and food. She brought joy to so many with her delightful laugh and will be greatly missed.
