Lisa Dawn Lauckner was born to Allen and Ellen Straabe (Friestad) in Maddock, North Dakota on May 16, 1965 and passed away on November 27, 2022 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held at Leeds Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Sharon Baker officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 9, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Leeds Lutheran Church. Lisa's final resting place will be Our Savior Cemetery in Harlow, North Dakota. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Our Savior's Lutheran Cemetery 4915 50 th Avenue NE Maddock, ND 58348. Everyone is welcome to stream the funeral service through the Leeds Lutheran Church Facebook Page.
Lisa was raised in Maddock, Devils Lake, Grafton, Leeds, and Minnewaukan, where she graduated with the Class of 1983. In high school, Lisa participated in yearbook club and was on the dance team, but her favorite extracurricular was basketball. She attended Jamestown College, where she met Ricky Hollowell; the couple had one daughter, Alexis Dawn, in 1984. Lisa eventually went back to school at Lake Region State College to obtain her degree. In 1988, she married Scott Lauckner, who joined the Army shortly thereafter. The couple was stationed at bases in Mainz, Germany, Colorado Springs, Colorado, and El Paso, Texas. They had three sons, Sam, Jesse, and Bo, before they divorced. In 2001, Zoë was born to Lisa and Jose Martinez. In November 2009, Lisa, Bo and Zoë moved to Leeds. Lisa worked for the Benson County Farmers Press under Richard Peterson before joining the Benson County Courthouse as Deputy Treasurer.
Lisa served as Secretary for the Church Council for four years and was a member of Leeds Ambulance Service, Leeds Park Board, the Harvest Days Committee, and the York Circle of Leeds Lutheran Church. At the time of her death, Lisa was treasurer for the Leeds Park Board and Harvest Days Committee, a member of the LEAF committee, and a Gamerunner for Leeds EDC Gaming.
Lisa began her mornings with the Daily Strong Woman Devotional and a mug of hot tea. She enjoyed gardening with Bo and Zoë and traveling to places near and far. Favorite trips included a June 2021 road trip from Amarillo, Texas through the Badlands with all five children and two trips to Scotland, Ireland, and England with daughter Ryann Alexis and mother Ellen in 2015 and 2019.
Lisa was preceded in death by grandparents, Harold and Guri Friestad and Thomas and Ardith Straabe; father, Allen Straabe, stepmom Carol Straabe; brother, Daniel Straabe; uncle, Mark Friestad; uncles-in-law, Roland Matthews and Robert Cable; and cousins, Ron Matthews and Trent Cable.
She is survived by mother and step-father, Ellen and Clinton Huffman of Leeds, Todd and Julie Straabe of Minot, Chans and Carrie Huffman of Leeds; and her children Ryann Alexis of Los Angeles, CA, Sam of El Paso, TX, Jesse of Lubbock, TX, Bo, University of North Dakota medical student, and Zoë, Minot State University student.
