Lloyd I. Burgess, 102, of Minnewaukan, ND, passed away Monday, October 19, 2023 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at the Minnewaukan Cemetery in Minnewaukan, ND.

Memorial may be given in memory of Lloyd to the Minnewaukan Cemetery P.O. Box 161 Maddock, ND 58348; Trinity Free Lutheran Church P.O. Box 95 Minnewaukan, ND 58351, or the Minnewaukan Senior Citizen Center P.O. Box 295 Minnewaukan, ND 58351.

Lloyd, son of Isaac (Derwood) and Hulda Geske Burgess was born January 5, 1921on a farm East of Oberon near the Charlie Geske ranch.  The next year the family moved back to Minnewaukan where Lloyd lived the remainder of his life except for the last few months when he moved to the Lutheran Home in New Rockford.  He graduated from Minnewaukan High School in 1939.

Lloyd and his dad moved to the Al LaRose farm a mile east of Minnewaukan where they farmed 40 years until the rising waters of Devils Lake became a problem.  The farm was sold to Ray and Delores Scherr in 2001.  Lloyd then moved into Minnewaukan and had lived at the West Bay apartments since 2008. He worked for the Benson County Highway Department for 32 years pulling a grader and scraper, later on drove truck. He retired in 1986.   He loved to travel visiting his many relatives and friends.  He also played many games of rummy with Paul Striefel and Lyle Huffman.

He was an active member of the Presbyterian Church and when it closed he attended Trinity Free Church.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Derwood (Dody) and Eugene Burgess and his sister Vernice Nielsen.
