Loren Howard Melaas, 65, of Maddock, ND passed away Thursday, May 5, 2022 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND. Graveside Service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in rural Maddock with Pastor Luther 'Lu' Mathison officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery: 4163 52 nd Avenue NE Maddock, ND 58348.
Loren was born August 30, 1956 in Maddock to Leonard and Eldora (Waagen) Melaas and was raised on the family farm rural Maddock. He graduated from Maddock Public School in 1974. On June 23, 1978, Loren married Charlene Beckendahl at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock. To this union, five children were born: Lucas, Brian, Lyman, Leon and Ellie.
Loren worked at various jobs, including: working for Turpening Concrete; doing work for Jerry Liska and for a while he had his own business doing concrete work, Melaas Construction. In 1988, Loren started his own business, where he took his fascination and love for antiques, artifacts and other rarities, and created LC Melaas & Sons scrap iron removal and online sales. He loved a good joke, enjoyed nature, a good Bison football game and most of all he loved his family and his farm.
Loren is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlene; children, Lucas of Devils Lake, ND, Brian (Michelle) of Berthold, ND, Lyman (Skyla) of Devils Lake, ND and Ellie (Riley Reinholt) of Bismarck, ND; grandchildren, Lucas J., Erika and Elyse; Ian, Nadia and Micah; Zander and Lyla; siblings, Marvin of Maddock, ND, Robert of Walhalla, ND, Gloria of Mankato, MN, David of Maddock, ND, Elaine (David) Koble of Fargo, ND; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Eldora Melaas; son, Leon; all his aunts and uncles; cousins, Scott Waagen, Leland Oksendahl and Randy Melaas.
