Lorraine J. Hellerud, 84, of Maddock, ND, died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby, ND.  Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 28, 2011,  10:30 AM at Viking Lutheran Church, rural Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service at the  Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock.  Casket bearers will be:  Kenneth Hellerud,  Darren Jorgenson,  Doug Arnston,  John  Benson,  Dave Holje and Curtis Hvinden.  Honorary bearers will be:  Betty Jacobson,  Jimmy Westrom,  Carmen Paulson,  Thelma Paulson,  Art Rice,  Marliss Hellerud,  Neva Zimmerman,   staff and residents of Maddock Memorial Home.

Lorraine Jewel Hellerud was born February 26, 1927, near Maddock, ND, the only child of Francis and Alice (Georgeson) Herbeck.  She attended the Arne rural school and graduated from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School at Maddock.  Lorraine then attended college at Minot State and later taught at Hesper, ND for several years.   Lorraine married Harlan Hellerud on October 6, 1946 at Maddock.  The couple farmed in West Antelope Township near Maddock until moving in 1966 to the Herbeck homestead in South Viking Township. She became a resident of the Maddock Memorial Home in September of 2005.   Harlan Hellerud died February 27, 2006.

Lorraine was a member of Viking Lutheran Church and its WELCA.  She enjoyed sharing the family history,  holidays,  cooking & baking,  gardening,  crocheting,  weaving and playing cards.

Surviving are 2 sons:  Kenneth and Francis both of Maddock;  2 grandchildren:  Darren (Krista) Jorgenson of  Burnsville, MN and Leanne (Riley) Farder of Fisher, MN and a great-granddaughter:  Taylor Williams.  She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Kenny and Francis,   I'm so sorry of your mother's passing.  I am  glad that Tommy and I got up to Maddock these past two summers to see you and your mother.  We won't be able to get there for the funeral, but do know we are thinking about you and the other relatives.  I am going to try to get back to Maddock in September.  My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.    Take care - Bob Hellerud

To Lorraine's loved ones...my deepest sympathy to you in the loss of Lorraine. I had so many wonderful conversations with her when she lived at the home in Maddock. She remained a good friend even after I no longer worked at the Home. When I would be in town and stop to visit, she was always so interested in what was going on in my life and was full of news about what was going on in hers. Her family was the joy of her life, and she loved you all dearly. She was a great lady and she will be missed. God Bless her memory.     Kristin Jones
