Lorraine Charlotte Sabbe, 82, of Maddock, ND passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.  Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 3, 2026 at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Cassie Borges officiating.  Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Nelson Funeral Home.  Burial will be at the Flora Lutheran Cemetery in rural Maddock. Everyone is welcome to stream the service on the North Viking Lutheran Church Facebook Page.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Flora Lutheran Cemetery Fund: P.O. Box 144 Maddock, ND 58348.

Lorraine was born October 23, 1943 to Wilford and Margaret Brown in Maddock, ND.  She attended grade school in Rich Valley School and high school at BCATS (Benson County Agricultural and Training School) in Maddock.  She attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake.  She attended Finley Flying School and received her Private Pilot's License.

She married Roger Sabbe on March 18, 1962 at the Esmond Presbyterian Church.

Always active in her community, Lorraine was a member of the Esmond Presbyterian Church, North Viking Church, and the Flora Church until its closure.  She served on the Minnewaukan-Oberon Parish Church Council for 4 years, was the North Viking Assessor from 1974 until 2018, served on the FSA-FHA county board for 14 years, and the Soil Conservation District board for 20 years.  She was a member of the JayCee Women and served as President.  In 1979, Lorraine was Key Woman of North Dakota and Durum Triangle Farm Woman of the year in 2004.

In high school, Lorraine worked as a waitress in Devils Lake and as a secretary for a Life Insurance company, and bookkeeper for Great Plains.

Although nicknamed Hurricane Lorraine (spoken by her yet "to be" son-in-law, but established by her friend Ma Green), when it came to loving her family and friends, she was more like a gentle breeze.

Lorraine was always involved in the daily farm operation whether it was driving truck, running combine, doing the books, making the meals in her million crock pots, or keeping the men in line and always making sure they turned in their slips.  She also flagged for Sabbe Brothers Flying Service.

In social settings, she preferred visiting with the men about her "favorite" Gleaner Combine versus discussing recipes and current fashion trends with the women.  However, she would host "church meetings" time to time with the "Real Housewives" of Maddock.

Although Kyle and Lorraine butted heads, the Love between them was undeniable.  Kyle's love of demo derbies came from his umpteen powder puff champion mother.

At the time of their births, Roger and Lorraine were the only two babies in the hospital, meeting there for the first time, marking their "first" date of an incredible Love Story.  Lorraine cherished her daily ranger rides with Roger and their times of traveling, going down South during the winter months and spending time at their camper.  Most days she would go into Maddock for daily walks at the Community Center followed by Round Table of Wisdom discussions and the coffee ladies serving her up with 1 scoop of ice cream and coffee.

Lorraine is survived by her husband of 63 years, Roger; her children, Pamela (Jeff) Rangen, Linda (Mark) Hovland, and Kyle (Stacy) Sabbe; 8 grandchildren, Colt (Melanie) Rangen, Clancy (Joanne) Rangen, and Hayley (Ryan) Kuntz, Kayla (Jared) Hotakainen, and Riley (Jessica) Hovland, Brody, Keaton and Kinsley Sabbe; 11 great-grandchildren, Maci and Emma Rangen, Wyatt and Weston Rangen, Cope and Sterling Kuntz, Gage, Remi, Myles and Bella Hotakainen and Hayes Hovland; brother Wilford (Wilda) Brown; sister-in-law, June Sabbe; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilford and Margaret Brown; mother and father-in-law, Spencer and Winifred Sabbe; sister and brothers-in-law, LeRoy Sabbe, Dean (Fern) Sabbe, and Lyle Sabbe; special nephew, Terry Sabbe.
