Luella J. Fredrickson, 90, formerly of Leeds and Devils Lake, died Sunday at the Lakota Good Samaritan Center in Lakota.  Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, 2013,  2:00 PM at the Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating, with a Eulogy by Jan Legacie.  Burial will be later in the spring in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday at the church an hour before the funeral. Casket bearers will be:  Jade Hanson,  Brooke Legacie,  Jesa Legacie,  Jim Legacie,  Doug Erickstad and Derek Johnson. Honorary bearers will be the members of the Leeds American Auxiliary.

Luella Jeanette (Olson) Fredrickson was born to Paul and Lena (Saterlie) Olson at Buford, ND, on January 15, 1923.  She was educated at the Round Prairie elementary school near Williston and graduated from the Williston High School in 1940.  Luella was then employed at the ASCS office in Williston for 8 years.  She married Alfred Fredrickson in 1947 at the Round Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Williston and lived in Williston for the next 4 years.  They moved to Corinth, ND and purchased the grocery store.  Luella also served as the Corinth Postmaster for 11 years.  The family moved to Leeds in 1963 and purchased the Red Own Store, operating it for 20 years.  During this time, Luella was employed as a Postal Clerk at the Leeds Post Office until retiring in 1983.  In addition to working at the Post Office in Corinth and Leeds,  Luella was also the bookkeeper of both grocery stores.  In 1999, the couple moved to Devils Lake and in 2008 they moved to the Lakota Good Samaritan Center in Lakota.  Alfred passed away April 29, 2009.  Luella then resided at Maple View in Grand Forks until returning to Lakota in January of this year.

Luella was an active member to Leeds Lutheran Church where she belonged to the WELCA,  sang in the choir and was a member of the triple trio.  While living in Devils Lake she attended St. Olaf Lutheran Church.  She was also a member of the Leeds American Legion Auxiliary,  Prairie Partners Square Dance Club of Devils Lake and the Silver Sensations at the Devils Lake Senior Center.  Luella was very  kind hearted and had a strong faith.  She enjoyed playing the piano, singing,  square dancing,  golf, cleaning house, walking and a good cup of coffee with some type of sweets.  Above all, she dearly loved her family.

Surviving are a daughter:  Jan Legacie of Devils Lake;  3 granddaughters:  Jade Hanson,  Brooke Legacie and Jesa Legacie;  a brother:  Elmer Olson of Yorba Linda, CA and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents;  husband: Alfred;  a son:  Dean;  son-in-law:  Garland Legacie;  2 brothers:  Arvid and Leon,  5 sisters:  Nora Nelson,  Evelyn Nelson,  Edna Arnstad,  Mildred Lohse and Agnes Braaten.

The family would like to give special thanks to Heartland Assisted Living and Lake Country Manor of Devils Lake,  Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks and Lakota Good Samaritan Center for their support and care of Luella.

My family and I would like to offer our deepest condolences on the loss of your mother, we have many memories of your folks both from their days in Cornith and in Leeds, they often would stop in ray and say hello on their trips to Williston I often think of the time I was hitchhiking and they gave me a ride from Grandforks to Leeds, they were very special friends of my folks, Cheryl and I will give a memorial to UMM. bible camp in memory of your mom, if you ever come out this way we are still in the store, stop in and say hello, it was truly an honor to be friends with your folks, take comfort knowing they are together again with dean.
