Luella Mae Olson, 87, of Maddock, ND passed away Friday, January 7, 2022 at St. Aloisius Nursing Home in Harvey, ND. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 13, 2022 at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Cassie Borges officiating. Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock. Burial will be held at West Minnewaukan Cemetery in rural Minnewaukan, ND. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the West Minnewaukan Cemetery: 303 Kennedy Avenue Maddock, ND 58348.
Luella Mae Kelly was born January 18, 1934 to Cecil and Lillie (Buehler) Kelly in Devils Lake, ND. She was raised on a farm near Oberon, ND and attended school there. Luella graduated from the Benson County Agricultural Training School in Maddock in 1952. She furthered her education and attended Valley City State College, where she received her Teaching Certificate. Luella taught grades 1-4 in the Eldon Township, Benson County, for one year.
Luella was united in marriage to Verdel Olson on October 6, 1953 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Oberon. Luella and Verdel welcomed four children, Jimmy, Janet, Wayne and Nancy.
Luella enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, baking, playing board games with the grandkids and attending all their sporting and school events. She also enjoyed camping trips and traveling. Luella was a member of the Elks Club, the Eagles Club, the Home Makers Club and the North Viking Ladies WELCA.
Luella is survived by her husband of 68 years, Verdel; children, Jimmy (Anna) Olson of Fargo, ND, Janet (Duane) Stensby of Maddock, ND, Wayne (Kelly) Olson of Mandan, ND and Nancy (John) DeBilzan of Lexington, KY; 8 grandchildren, Eric (Brook) Olson, Sara (Patrick) Deutschman, Becky Stensby, Jesse (Meagan) Stensby, Jenna (Jerrold) Zettel, Erika (Scott) Weninger, Lindi DeBilzan and Sammy DeBilzan; 7 great-grandchildren, Kinsey, Connor, Isaac, Benjamin, Emelie, Kayson and Claire; sister-in-law, Kathy (Wally) Moon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lillie Kelly.
