Obituary

Madeline J. Benshoof, 94, of Leeds, ND, formerly of Churchs Ferry, ND, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Tuesday, September 7th, 2010, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Leeds with Fr. Joseph D'Aco, celebrant.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Vigil at the Nelson Funeral Home in Leeds.

Madeline Josephine Benshoof was born September 3, 1915, in Halliday, ND, to Joseph and Margaret (Hellman) Voltz.  She attended school and later cooked in a café in Halliday.  Madeline married Bert Benshoof in Hazen, ND on September 9, 1933.  They lived in Hurdsfield until 1939 when the moved to Leeds where Bert worked for North American Creamery.  The family moved to Churchs Ferry in 1952 when they purchased the grocery store.  They owned and operated the store until retiring in 1976.  Bert died January 21, 1998.  Madeline moved into Leeds in 2001 and in July of this year became a resident at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Madeline was a wonderful cook and baker.  She was famous for her good meals.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law:  Darlene and Dennis Pierson of Knox, ND,  sons and daughters-in-law:  Pat and Delsie Benshoof of Leeds,  Jerry and Kay Benshoof of Moore, OK & Roger and Lois Benshoof of Pleasant Plains, IL;  15 grandchildren;  23 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  grandsons:  Steven and Dwight Pierson;  sisters:  Margaret Anderson and Hilda Belcourt;  and brothers:  Joseph, John and Leo Voltz.
