Obituary

Mamie B. Johnson, 99, of Maddock, ND,  passed away Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby.  Funeral Services will be Wednesday, October 24, 2012,  10:30AM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Casket bearers will be:  Richard Anderson,  August Axtman,  Jay Rice   Frank Mosser,  Dave Holje and Ralph Olson.   Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to7 pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Wednesday at the church an hour before the funeral.  Music will be from Arlyss Bergrud, soloist with Rachel Markestad, organist.

Mamie Barneta Dalbak was born February 26, 1913 at Maddock, ND, to Peter and Ada (Halvorson) Dalbak.  She was raised and graduated in 1930 from the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock.  Mamie then graduated from a secretarial college in Bismarck.  Mamie and Harvey Johnson were married November 25, 1933 in New Rockford, ND.  They lived in New Rockford until moving to Bismarck in 1940 and later to Seattle, WA where she was employed at the Boeing Aircraft Company during WWII.  The  couple then returned to Maddock, built and ran Harvey's Coffee Shop until moving back to Bismarck in 1951, where Mamie was employed many years as the director of medical records at Bismarck Hospital.  After 27 years in Bismarck, they moved back to Maddock where Mamie cared for her mother until her death.  Following Harvey's death on August 16, 1998,  Mamie continued to live in her home until moving to the Maddock Memorial Home in 2007 and had just recently became a resident at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Mamie was a member of North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock and while living in Bismarck,  a member of Trinity Lutheran Church,

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law:  Robert Johnson of Bodega Bay, CA and Wesley & Elsie Johnson of Prosper, TX;  four grandchildren:  David (Tammy) Johnson,  Marcie (Tom) Weigle,  Duane (Mary) Johnson and Eric Johnson;  7 great-grandchildren:  Ty, Cara, Riley and Evan Johnson,  Brittany, Taylor & Ryan Weigle;  two step-great-grandchildren:  Croft & Aubrey Fite.

Mamie was preceded in death by her parents;  husband; a daughter-in-law: Jean Johnson;  a brother:  Palmer Dalbak and a sister:  Alvina White.
