Margaret M. Jacobson, 91, Maddock, ND, died Tuesday, October 20, 2009, at Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.  Funeral services will be Saturday, October 24, 2009, 11:00 AM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  The

Eulogy will be from Vern Jacobson.  Burial will in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, rural Maddock.  Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7pm with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Saturday at the church an hour before the funeral.  Casket bearers will be:  David Abrahamson,  Wayne Baustad,  Curtis Kenner,  David Kenner,  Ralph Olson and Donald Williams.  Music will be from Roger Hill, soloists with Karen Hill and Rachel Markestad, pianists.

Margaret Marian Jacobson was born July 1, 1918 at McHenry, ND, to Martin and Olivia (Erickson) Syvertson.  She was raised there, graduated from the McHenry High School and  attended Valley City State Teachers College.  Margaret taught for 38 years at schools including: Manfred, Grace City,  the Isabel and Albert Township schools, Harlow and Maddock public schools.  Margaret married Vernon Jacobson on June 20, 1943, at her parents home near McHenry, ND.   The couple lived and farmed north of Maddock.  After his death on March 17, 1993, Margaret moved to Park View Manor in Maddock.  She also lived for a time in Ada, MN, returning to Maddock in 2005 to reside at the Maddock Memorial Home until August of this year, when she moved to Heartland Care Center in Devils Lake.

Margaret was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Maddock, where she was the organist for a number of years and held many offices in the church and WELCA.  Following its closure, she became a member of North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock.  The greatest love of her life was teaching.  She also enjoyed music and needlepoint.

Surviving are a son:  Vern (Sharee) Jacobson of Bottineau, ND;  daughters:  Beverly (Richard) Arnston of Vergas, MN & Debbie (James) Kent of Colorado Springs, CO;  9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband;  brothers:  Albert & Harry Syvertson and a sister:  Lydia Milne.


Condolences:

I was sorry to hear of Margaret's death; while I was married to your cousin, Bill, Margaret was one of our favorites. She was kind, considerate, interested in our three children and always quick to laugh at Bill's jokes! I will always remember her as a loving person and I will remember her beautiful smile as we told her stories about Susan, Steven and Michelle. Margaret was a wonderful lady. She was my awsome second grade teacher, I remember thinking if I failed I could have her for another year. Then that very year she retired and her daughter-in-law Mrs Jacobson was my teacher. I loved when Margaret would substitute teach I enjoyed her patients, smile and nurchuring way. As I grew Margaret mentored me in many ways. She often assured me to follow the Lord and trust. I loved to visit with her and I will miss her very much. I believe heavens angels have welcomed her in.
