Marilyn Urness, 86, of Leeds, ND passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday, May 25, 2023 at her home in Leeds. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Leeds Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to: Leeds Lutheran Cemetery P.O. Box 76 Leeds, ND 58346.
Marilyn Urness was born in Minot, ND on May 29, 1936, to Jack and Marge (Fox) Kohler. She was raised in Larimore and Grand Forks, ND, and graduated from Grand Forks Central High School. Marilyn furthered her education at UND and also earned an Associate Arts Degree from Lake Region Community College.
Marilyn was previously married to Curt Sande of Grand Forks and together they had two sons, Cary and Chuck. She married the love of her life, W. Dale Urness, on August 9, 1969. They raised their blended family in Minnewauken and Leeds, ND.
Dale and Marilyn farmed and later operated Lindale Seed Company and, most recently, Lindale Self-Storage Units in Leeds. She was a Mary Kay Director and Consultant for many years. Marilyn was a member of Leeds Lutheran Church, the Mary Circle, Leeds Lutheran Church Quilters and Brinsmade Homemakers. She so enjoyed the fellowship and friendship she found while spending her time with the church and these groups. Marilyn was an accomplished artist, enjoyed her flower gardening and most of all the time she spent with family, especially her great-grandchildrens' birthday party celebrations. She was very proud of her 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her brothers-in-law, Reginald (Roselynn) Urness of Grand Forks, ND and Clair (Tiffany) Urness of Sacramento, CA; seven children include, Debra (Mike) Ahmann of Bismarck, Greg (Connie) Urness of Kindred, Kevin (Tammy) Urness of Leeds, Jeff (Brenda) Urness of Devils Lake, Cary (Nancy) Sande of Kaufman, TX, Chuck (Karmen) Sande of Bentonville, AR and Joe Urness of Nine Mile Falls, WA.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Marge Kohler; husband, W. Dale Urness; brother, William Kohler and infant grandson, Zachary Urness as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law.
