Marilyn Joy Wallace, 73, of Maddock, ND, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, ND. A Private Family Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January, 29, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, ND with Paul Gunderson, PhD officiating. Burial will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery: 4136 38 th Street NE Esmond, ND 58332. CDC recommendations including, social distancing, cleansing your hands and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged. Wearing a mask is required.
Marilyn Joy was born July 8, 1947 to Alex and Edna (Beisel) Klein in Devils Lake, ND. She grew up and was raised in Cavalier County, graduating from Alsen High School. After high school, Marilyn began working at the Munich Bank as a teller. She met and fell in love with Joseph Thomas while he was working at the Nekoma missile site; the couple was married and welcome one son, Michael. Joe was killed in an automobile accident a short time after.
Marilyn was united in marriage to Jack Wallace on July 7, 1978 in Devils Lake. They relocated to Esmond where Jack continued his trucking business and the couple welcomed a son, Jon. Marilyn drove bus for the Maddock Public School for many years and managed Jack's accounting and bookwork. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, the Esmond VFW Auxiliary and a member of the Elks Club in Devils Lake.
Marilyn enjoyed bowling, puzzles, board games, playing cards and collecting owls. She raised rabbits and took them to rabbit shows all over North Dakota, including the North Dakota State Fair. She enjoyed going to the casino and spending time with her friends, Delores, Judy and Thelma. Marilyn's favorite past time was spent with her children, grandchildren and family.
Marilyn is survived by her sons, Michael (Melissa) Thomas of Maddock, ND and Jon (Michelle) Wallace of Fargo, ND; step-children, Greg (Susan) Wallace of Bismarck, ND and Cleo Bachmeier of Valley City, ND; grandchildren, Brody Thomas, Logan Fossen, Ella Fossen, Jeff (Peggy) McCanna, John (Erleen) McCanna, Nichole Beecroft,Alicia (Ben) Walters, Dustin (Kelsey) Walters, Sarah (Louis)Fernandez and Adam (Samantha) Wallace; sister, Joyce (Gary) McFarlane.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joseph Thomas and Jack Wallace; parents, Alex and Edna Klein; sisters, Vergeane (Bill) Unruh and Eileen (John) Iverson.
