Marion L. Stensgaard-Swenson, 83 of Moorhead, MN formerly of Devils Lake, Calvin and Heimdal, ND, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at River Point Care Center in Moorhead. Funeral services will be Monday, May 6 2013, 11:00 AM at Viking Lutheran Church rural Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday at the church from 9am until the time of service. Casket bearers will be her sons: Leslie, Wayne and Dwight Stensgaard and her grandchildren: Monica Ketterling, Erica Thompson, Mari Stensgaard and Tate Stensgaard. The organist will be Joann Bergrud. The Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock is in charge of the arrangements.
Marion Lucille Ambers was born October 27, 1930 near Heimdal, ND, to Arnold and Alice (Wigen) Ambers. She was raised there and attended the Lynne rural school. Marion married Lloyd Stensgaard on December 1, 1946 at Viking Lutheran Church. The couple lived and farmed south of Maddock until his death on July 27, 1970. Marion attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake and graduated from the Practical Nursing program. Through the years she was employed at Mercy Hospital, the Good Samaritan Center, North Dakota School for the Deaf and REM all in Devils Lake until retiring in 1997. Marion married Thorsten Swenson on October 10, 1974 at Viking Lutheran Church. They lived on his farm near Calvin, ND until moving to Devils Lake in 1978 and building a new home. Thorsten passed away November 30, 2006. Marion later resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake, then moved to the Benedictine Health System Nursing Home in Garrison, ND and then to River Point Care Center in Moorhead.
Marion was baptized and confirmed at Viking Lutheran Church rural Maddock. She had been a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church and Peace Lutheran Church in Devils Lake.
Surviving are 3 sons: Leslie (Beverly) Stensgaard of West Fargo, Wayne Stensgaard of Devils Lake and Pastor Dwight (Kathleen) Stensgaard of Rapid City, SD; 3 step-children: Randy (Jeani) Swenson of Cook MN, Deb (Bill) Cawley of Inkster, ND, and Cindy (Mike) Milkey of Minot, ND; 6 grandchildren: Monica Ketterling, Erica Thompson, Mari Stensgaard, Tate Stensgaard, Alex Shevlin and Nadine Totty; 7 step-grandchildren: John Cawley, Kari Cawley, Lori Cawley, Erin Cawley, Emily Swenson, Ryan Swenson and Peder Swenson; 7 great-grandchildren: Macey, Sydney, Luke, Jacob, Emma, Megan and Ryan; 2 sisters: Annette Martel of Mayville and Ardis Ambers of Fargo.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands, brothers Sydney Ambers and Myron Ambers, and sister Fern Sabbe.

Sorry for you loss. I went to school for LPN with Marion and had many good times with her. We kept in touch until recent past years. She was a fun person and had many stories to tell about her children. She was fun to be around and to have as a friend. I am glad to have known her. Charlene Smith
