Marvelyn E. Leier, 74, of Esmond, ND, died on Monday, November 28, 2011 at St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, ND  after fighting the good fight against cancer.  Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at 10:30AM  at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Esmond, with Fr. Brian Buchmeier, celebrant.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 7pm at the church with a Rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Wake Service at 7:30 PM.  Casket bearers will be nephews:  Brian Leier, Davin Leier, Tim Leier, Chris Duklet and Mark Forseth, and grandsons Christopher Leier and Daniel Stroud.  Honorary bearers will be the members of the St. Boniface Confraternity of Christian Mothers. Music will be from Janie Wolfe, soloist with Helen Arnold, organist.

Marvelyn Ellen (Duklet) Leier was born February 25, 1937, in Ulen, Minnesota to Elmer and Mildred (Larsen) Duklet.  She attended schools at Ulen, Twin Valley, and Crookston, Minnesota, and then she came with her family to North Dakota.  Marvelyn attended school in Leeds, graduated from high school at Churchs Ferry, and went on to Minot State College, where she obtained a two-year teaching certificate.  After college, she taught school at East Fork Township, rural Esmond.

Marvelyn Duklet and Jerry Leier of Esmond, ND were married October 15, 1958.  They farmed in Rich Valley Township, eventually moving on to the homestead farm.  On top of doing everything that goes along with living on a farm and raising a family, Marvelyn was active in the community and church.  She worked at the Maddock Hospital, was a substitute teacher, taught Headstart and kindergarten in Esmond and eventually became the business manager at Esmond Public School.  She was the gaming manager for the Esmond VFW, and many people will remember her calling bingo twice a week at the bar.  Marvelyn worked over 10 years in telecommunications in Fessenden, North Dakota, where she made many friends who provided wonderful support during her fights with cancer.  She loved her gardens, her grandchildren, all sports (especially football!), and trips to the casino.

She is survived by her husband: Jerry; their four children: Paula (Steve) Leier-Engelhardt of Green Bay, WI, Paul (Stacie) of Valley City, ND, David (Charlotte) of Bismarck, ND, and Darrick of Thornton, CO; eight grandchildren: Brittney, Michaela, Kaden, Dalton, Daniel, Christopher, Miriah, and Ryan; her sister: Joyce Forseth of Halstad, MN; and brother: Terry Duklet of Fergus Falls, MN.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Mildred Duklet, and her brother, Daniel.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Aloisius Hospital in Harvey for their care and support.
