Marvin LeRoy Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at Sanford Medical Center on Sunday, December 19, 2021. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Vasa Lutheran Cemetery in rural Esmond, ND.

He was born June 13, 1943, to Oscar and Violet (Erickson) Smith in Maddock, ND.  Marvin grew up there, attending grade school at Isabel Township School and Benson County Agricultural School in Maddock, where he graduated in 1961.

Marvin worked on the family farm until moving to Fargo in 1975.  He worked at Case IH in Fargo until his retirement. In 1976, he married Fern Larsen and they had two children, Jack and Eric. He had a passion for wood carving and was a longtime member of Red River Valley Woodcarvers. He was a member of Lutheran Church of the Cross where he was active in the Men's Club. He spent much of his time with his grandson Charlie.

Marvin is survived by his son Jack (Rachael) Spade, his son Eric (Nicole) Smith and grandson Charlie; ex-wife Fern Larsen Smith; his brother Ronald (Donna) Smith and their children Todd, Denise, and Susan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Violet, and his sister Donna Smith.
