Obituary

Math Schwab, 90, of Esmond, ND,  died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Funeral services will be Thursday,  April 30th, 2009,  11:00 AM  at Trinity Lutheran Church in Esmond, with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by the Esmond VFW Post 757 and the Neathery-Simensen VFW Post #757 of Devils Lake.

Honorary casket bearers will be his grandsons:  Jonathon Partain,  Shane Partain  Michael Schwab,  Joe Schwab,  Andy Schwab,  Matthew Paulius,   Joshua Armentrout,  Shawn Olson,  Jacob Johnson and Jesse Johnson.  Music will be from Henning & Myrtle Jacobson, vocalists with Margaret Toso, organist.

Visitation will be Thursday at the church an hour before the service.

Math Schwab was born April 20, 1919 at Esmond, ND to Mathias and Elizabeth (Getz) Schwab.  He was raised and educated in Esmond.  Math entered the US Army on October 28, 1940 and served in the Southwest Pacific Theater at Guadalcanal and Northern Solomons during WWII.  On November 9, 1942, he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart.  He was discharged on August 8, 1945 and returned to Esmond.   Math married Dorothy College on November 6, 1946 at Esmond.  The couple made their home in Esmond, where he worked for 16 years in the Esmond Creamery, owned the Esmond Laundromat for a period of 4 years and then worked for the Benson County Highway Department until his retirement.  Dorothy  died January 8, 2004.  Math remained in Esmond until his death.

Math was a member of the Esmond VFW Post #757 and served on the Esmond City Council for many years.  Music and dancing were a very important part of his life.  In his younger years, he played clarinet in a local band.  Math enjoyed buying and fixing up old vehicles and picnics with his family.

Math is survived by:  5 daughters:  Paulette (Mrs. Bill) Paulius of DePere, WI,  Kristie (Mrs. Mike) Partain of Erhard, MN,  Penny (Mrs. Mark) Armentrout of Devils Lake,  Jody (Mrs. Dan) Johnson &  Wanda Schwab all of Valley City, ND;  3 sons:  Chester (Cindy) Schwab of Bismarck,  Terry (June) Schwab of Esmond & Todd (Kathy) Schwab of Rugby, ND;  13 grandchildren:  Jonathon & Shane Partain,  Michael,  Joe  & Andy Schwab,  Matthew Paulius,  Joshua Armentrout,  Shawn Olson,  Jesse & Jacob Johnson, Miranda Schwab,  Cara Krebsbach and Kayla Armentrout;  5 great-grandchildren:  Tyler Schwab,  Mollie & Colton Partain,  Ella & Maya Krebsbach;  one step-great-grandson:  Corey Olson and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife;  brothers:  Michael,  Peter,  Joseph and Peter,  sisters:  Katherina,  Ottilia,  Hannah,  Mary and Filmenna.


Condolences:

My sympathy is with the Schwab Family during this difficult time. My grandfather was Peter Schwab. I always try to keep an eye out for the "Family Name" but it is with much sadness that I read about Math.
