Mavis Huffman's Obituary
Mavis Viola Hahn was born January 2, 1931 in rural Minnewaukan to Walter and Mabel (Westrum) Hahn. She attended Lake View rural school and Minnewaukan Public School. Mavis was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan. She married Lyle Huffman on October 29, 1947 at St. Peter Lutheran Parsonage in Minnewaukan.
Mavis was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Minnewaukan where she served in various capacities. Mavis survived cancer twice in the early 1990's. Through this experience she learned to appreciate the small joys of life. Mavis loved having company. The coffee pot was always on and homemade baked goods were served. Mavis liked nothing better than to sit down and play cards with family and friends. She loved flowers, especially the wild crocus that Lyle would pick for her. In the evening after a day's work, she enjoyed going with Lyle to look at the crops, wildlife and changes within the community.
Survivors include her loving husband of 63 years: Lyle of Minnewaukan; a daughter: Diane Peterson of Minnewaukan; 4 sons: Clinton (Ellen) Huffman of Minnewaukan, Robert (Kelly) Huffman of Minnewaukan, Terry (Reney) Huffman of Horace, ND and Steven (Cindy) Huffman of Minnewaukan; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister: Lois Grabowski of Glen Lyon, PA; 2 brothers: Duane (Charleen) Hahn of Temple, TX and Donald (Darleen) Hahn of Tioga, ND and a sister-in-law: Marion Hahn of Grand Forks, ND.
Preceding her in death were her parents; 2 sisters: Lucille Hahn and Geraldine Mayer; a brother: Gerald Hahn and two brothers-in-law: Leonard Grabowski and Philip Mayer.
Condolences:
My deepest sympathy goes out to Mavis's family at this time of loss and great sorrow. Mavis will be greatly missed by all....the smile that Mavis displayed at all times proved she was a wonderful lady. Don and I had the great pleasure of being included in on playing cards at her home and what a feast we had and also a great time...she was a #1 hostess. Prayers going out to all!! Rita Severinson
Sorry to hear of Mavis's passing. She was a grand lady, we had so many good visits when I use to do her hair, she found good in everybody.
