Michael Lysne, 72, Minnewaukan, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2020 at his home in Minnewaukan, surrounded by his loving family. A public graveside service will be held Thursday, September 3, at 1:00 P.M. at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery of Minnewaukan with visitation/viewal beginning at 12:00 noon at the gravesite. Arrangements are with Nelson Funeral Home of Maddock.

CDC recommendations including social distancing, hand sanitizing, wearing masks, and staying away if not feeling well are encouraged.

Michael Lysne, son of Adolph and Maxine Lysne was born June 26, 1948 in Devils Lake. He grew up on the family farm near Minnewaukan and began helping his father and grandfather on the farm at an early age. Michael attended grade school at Eldon Township Country School and graduated from Minnewaukan High School in 1966. He then attended Lake Region Junior College in Devils Lake and Valley City State College where he received his teaching degree. He taught at the Leeds High School for one year before entering the US Army in 1971 and served his country during the Vietnam War.   Following his honorable discharge in 1973, Mike returned to the family farm.

On December 13, 1975, Mike was united in marriage to Carole Carpenter in Minnewaukan. He continued to farm with his father and later took over the farming operation and began raising cattle. He and Carole moved into Minnewaukan in 1979 and had resided there since. He remained active on the farm, working with his son Brian, as long as he was able.

Mike's life revolved around the things he loved most. His family and farming. Mike especially enjoyed working with his cattle.

Mike was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Carole; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian (Lindsey) Lysne of Minnewaukan; his sister, Patricia 'Toni' Mimay of Rochester, MN; 2 brothers, Dennis Lysne of Seattle, WA and Jerry Lysne of Las Vegas, NV; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Antonio Mimay.

Family requests memorials be given to the St. Peter Cemetery of Minnewaukan or a charity of your choice.
