Myrtle Jacobson, 88, of Esmond, ND passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, ND. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Esmond, ND with Pastor Harold Ovre officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Music will be provided by Paula Duren.

Myrtle Beatrice Smith was born May 7, 1928 to Herman and Carrie (Erickson) Smith in the farm home, rural Esmond, ND. She attended the Isabell consolidated school for 10 years and attended the Benson County Agriculture and Training School for two years where she graduated. Following graduation, Myrtle worked as a local telephone operator until her marriage to Henning Jacobson in 1947. Together they raised four children: Lana, Lane, Lynne and Lee.
The Jacobson's were members of the Vasa Lutheran Church until the merger with the Immanuel Lutheran Church in 1958. She was a member of both of the church choirs. Myrtle also sang with the community choir and chorus participating in several of the musicals. She and Henning sang duets on numerous occasions and they along with Harlan and Ethel formed a quartet in the 1950's and entertained in many events. Myrtle taught Sunday school for 12 years and was an active member of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church and held an office nearly every year. She served as President several times. Myrtle served as Secretary in the local Farmers Union for several years, and the Women's Democrat NPL party. She and her husband belonged to the Elks Club where they loved to dance.
The Jacobson's traveled extensively to Sweden, Switzerland, Russia, Kenya, the Bahamas, Mexico, Hawaii and many states in the United States. Myrtle's favorite hobby has been painting through the years, first with oils and later watercolors where she would make greeting cards. Another hobby was gardening, especially flowers. She led a full and enjoyable life.
Myrtle is survived by her husband of 69 years, Henning; children, Lana (Mike) Venzke, Lane (Pam) Jacobson, Lynne (Sheldon) Wiger and Lee (Roberta) Jacobson; grandchildren, Kory (Colette) Boehmer, Ryan (Tanya) Jacobson, Janelle (Miguel) Swanson, Andrea (Max) Barabas, Brian (Leah) Wiger, Jen (Steve) Baxa, Luke and Kendal Jacobson, Katie Palacios and her Spanish Grandson, Roberto; great grandchildren, Will, Aaron, Sam, Oliver, Isaac, Jada, Adra, Rylan and Elsie; brother, Lyle Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Carrie (Erickson) Smith; brothers, Henry, Ed, Rueben, Ernest and Floyd; sisters, Elsie, Vivian and Selma.
