Norman Halvorson, 98, of Maddock, ND, died Wednesday, October 14th, 2009, at the Heart of America Medical Center Long Term Care in Rugby, ND.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 17, 2009,  2:00 PM at North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7pm at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock and Saturday at the church an hour before the service.

Casket bearers will be:   Bennie Fossen,  Gerald Fossen,  Lanny Fossen,  Ivar Haugen,  Dave Holje,  Curtis Hvinden and Dean Markestad.  Music will be from Rachel Markestad, pianist and soloist.

Norman Halvorson was born December 10, 1910, to Nicholas and Solveig (Anderson) Halvorson on the family homestead in Arne Township, rural Maddock, ND.  He was raised there and educated at the Arne Township School.  Norman also attended the Benson County Agricultural and Training School in Maddock.  Following his education, Norman lived and farmed the family farm until his retirement.  Norman married Eva (Anderson) Krause, December 10, 1956 in Wolsey, South Dakota.  Eva died November 19, 1986.  In later years, he moved into Maddock and for the past several years has resided at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby.

Norman was a life member of North Viking Lutheran Church, where he was baptized on December 22, 1910 and confirmed on April 10, 1927.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, attending threshing shows and collecting ink pens.  Above all, farming was his life.

He is survived by step-children:  Martha Hollis of Rapid City, SD,  Edward Krause of Nampa, ID and Marcel Krause of Seattle, WA; a number of step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren;  a brother:  Ernest Halvorson of Hoquiam, WA;  a sister:  Thelma Zimmerman in Wisconsin; and a number of nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents;  wife;  step-son:  Leon Krause;  step-daughter:  Seeley Baseman;  brothers:  Arden,  Clarence,  Lloyd and Fred Halvorson;  sisters:  Gladys Westrick,  Margaret Halvorson, Thora Brink and Violet Halvorson.





Condolences:

I am so sorry for the loss of Norman. We were cousins and we had enjoyed being together when we were young. Norman always used to say he was the "older" cousin since he was born on December 10 and I was born the following April 9. I had close contact with his sisters, Gladys and Thora, since I live in Moorhead, MN and they lived nearby in Fargo, ND.
