Obituary

Phyllis G. Hanson, 83, of Devils Lake, formerly of Leeds, ND,  died Wednesday at her home in Devils Lake.  Funeral services will be Monday, June 27, 2011 at  3:00 PM at the Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Richard Budd officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  There will be no visitation.   Casket bearers will be her grandchildren:  Tara (Jeremy) Wagner,   Michelle Straabe,  Caitlin Straabe,  Jade Hanson,  Kelly Hanson,  Garrett (Torrey) Anderson,  Dakota Hanson and Colton Hanson.

Phyllis G. Johnson was born September 5, 1927 in Cando, ND, to Gustav and Emma (Lindgren) Johnson.  She was raised on a farm near Niles, ND and graduated from the Leeds Public School.  Phyllis then attended business school in Fargo and worked in the insurance business in Chicago and Phoenix for a time.  She married M.O. (Rip) Hanson on November 11, 1949 at Leeds.  They made their home in Leeds.  Phyllis was employed as a secretary first at the Leeds Public School for ten years, then for twenty years at the North Central Soil Conservation Service offices in Leeds and later in Minnewaukan.  The couple moved to Devils Lake in 2003.  Rip passed away on January 14, 2004.

Phyllis was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church,  its WELCA and quilting group.  She enjoyed reading,  hunting,  fishing,  planting trees, swimming and various activities in the Lake Region area. Above all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are her children:  Clinton (Nina) Hanson of Steamboat Springs, CO,  Connie (Terry) Straabe of Devils Lake and Carl (Lynette) Hanson of Cokato, MN;  and 8 grandchildren:   Tara (Jeremy) Wagner,   Michelle Straabe,  Caitlin Straabe,  Jade Hanson,  Kelly Hanson,  Garrett (Torrey) Anderson,  Dakota Hanson and Colton Hanson.  She was preceded in death by her parents;  husband; and two brothers and their wives:  Richard & Doris Johnson  and Victor & Donna Johnson.
