Phyllis Hermanson, 88, of Maddock, ND passed away at the Good Samaritan Society on Saturday, May 14, 2016 surrounded by family. A Graveside Service will be held at 2:30PM Saturday, May 21, 2016 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Cemetery in Harlow, ND with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Visitation will take place from 3:00PM to 7:00 PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00PM Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Maddock, ND. Casket Bearers will be Daniel Hermanson, Bradley Hermanson, Gabriel Kost, Katelyn Hermanson, Lindsay Kost, Kayla Robley, Nathan Hermanson, and LinElla Pistol.
Phyllis Collette Rognlie was born December 12, 1927 in Brinsmade, ND to Edwin and Margaret (Larson) Rognlie. She attended school in Minnewaukan, ND where she excelled in her studies and graduated class Valedictorian 1946. Phyllis worked at the court house prior to her marriage to Hjalmer Hermanson on November 12, 1948. The couple lived and farmed in Butte Valley Township. They were proud recipients of the 1967 North Central Soil Conservation Award.
Phyllis and Hjalmer enjoyed travelling extensively throughout the US, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and many more parts of Europe. Phyllis was currently a member of the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock and former member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Harlow. She was an avid member of the Robert Tovsrud VFW Post #757 Auxiliary in Harlow where she held many offices. She was also the state treasurer for the VFW Auxiliary, member of the 55 Club and worked with the Head Start Program. She enjoyed collecting dolls, making clothing, quilting and cooking for her family and friends.
Phyllis is survived by her sons, Jon Hermanson of Maddock, ND, Barry Hermanson of Maddock, ND, Teran (Dawn) Hermanson of Maddock, ND and Robert (Lona) Hermanson of Fargo, ND; five grandchildren, Daniel (Rebecca) Hermanson, Bradley Hermanson, Katelyn Hermanson, Kayla (Travis) Robley, Nathan Hermanson (Mari & Anna Johnson) ; step-grandchildren, Gabe (Kara) Kost and Lindsay Kost (Eric Miller); great-grandchildren, Cooper Tuenge, Asher Hermanson, Maria Hermanson; step-great-grandchildren, Kennedy Miller, Gracie Kost and Kelby Kost; a special "granddaughter", LinElla Pistol; brother, Carol Rognile and nephew, Jon Michael (Anne) Rognlie, and Katelyn's mother Mary Duren Hermanson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hjalmer; parents, Edwin and Margaret Rognlie; daughter, Tanya Hermanson; a grandson, Mitchell Hermanson; a great-grandson, Gabriel P. Hermanson and a sister-in-law, Joyce Rognlie.
