Rebecca (Becky) Thompson, 77 years old and lifelong farmer and florist from rural Brinsmade and Devils Lake, passed on the morning of June 18, 2026 at her Devils Lake home with her family surrounding her. A Celebration of Becky’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 26, 2026 at the Trinity Free Lutheran Church in Minnewaukan, ND with Pastor Jim Sorum officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Music will be provided by various individuals to honor Becky’s wishes. Burial will take place at Trinity Free Lutheran Cemetery in Minnewaukan. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the HIA (Hearts in Action) - Hospice: 2860 10th Ave N Suite 400, Grand Forks, ND 58203.

She was born October 27, 1948 to Madelyn (Berg) and Boyd Haagenson in Rolette, ND and attended school in Rolette and Minnewaukan. In 1964 she married Ronnie Thompson and they started farming together and raising their family in Riggin Township. Along with Ronnie, she enjoyed their farm life, taking pride and joy in raising crops and kids. She truly lived for her family, always putting them first. Becky has always been creative, starting her first floral business out of their farm home and later opening the Cottage, a floral and gift shop in our hometown of Minnewaukan. Her little shop and her floral creations brought so many smiles. She loved designing flowers and Ronnie loved delivering them. She designed funeral flowers for countless families and bringing comfort to others was so important to her.

She has always been a wonderful cook (never using recipes) and baker, known all around the area for her scalloped potatoes and ham.

Becky has always been kind hearted and honest and had the heart of a servant, making sure that every family member and friend came first. She was self-taught in many ways. She sewed clothes for their 4 kids and was constantly cooking, baking, gardening, decorating and painting buildings inside and out, mowing, running food out to the fields, and whistling while she worked. She told her kids that the most important thing to her was being their Mom and nothing made her happier than being with them and their Dad. Rhonda, Rita, Randy & Ryan adored their Mama and Ronnie looked at her with love in his eyes. Becky and Ronnie treated others with respect, dignity, and love, teaching their kids to do the same.

A highlight of each year for Becky and Ronnie and their family was spending time at the Dale and Martha Hawk Farm Museum in rural Wolford. In recent years she enjoyed time spent on the West Bay of Devils Lake with her family.

Becky and Ronnie always had music playing in the house and loved listening to their girls singing and playing guitar and piano. Both farm kids themselves, they loved farming with their boys early on. The grandkids meant the world and welcoming great grandkids made them so happy. We kids thought they’d never leave the farm but living in Devils Lake in the twin home brought them so much happiness. They enjoyed visits from neighbors, family (including their grand dog Georgia) and friends.

Becky was very active in our home church, Trinity Free Lutheran in Minnewaukan. She loved her time with the WMF, feeding and loving her fellow church members.

Always quiet and always thinking, she treated people with kindness and respect and had so many friends who love her.

Becky is survived by her 4 R’s, Rhonda (Jeff) Thompson Gilpatrick of Grand Forks, Rita (Brian) Thompson Halvorson of Grand Forks, Randy (Sherri) Thompson of rural Minnewaukan, and Ryan (DeShawn Tofsrud) Thompson of rural Leeds; her grandchildren, Ethan Howard, Emma, Evan and Eric Thompson, Ceara, Preston, Garrette (Breanna Specht), and Austin Thompson; step-grandchildren, Jonathon, Erin (Andrew) Allen, Jenifer, and Erika Gilpatrick, Mike (Alyssa), Chris (Mariah) and McKenna Tofsrud; her great grandchildren, Kaidyn Burdick, Hennessy Kukowski, Arlo and Layne Thompson; her step great-grandchildren, Whitley Jo Allen, Emery Jade Gilpatrick Gross, Avlyn, Easton, and Cohen Tofsrud, Tinley, Tallan Boone, and Townes Tofsrud; Special cousins, Marco Tollefson, Julie Tollefson, MariDon Tollefson Sorum, and Miriam Campbell Gilligan, and Special friend Kathy Lalum. She is survived by her brothers, Larry (Jan) Haagenson, Paul (Sharyl Schaffer) Haagenson, David (Lori) Pederson, and Brian (Marla) Pederson; Brother In-Law Garry (Darlene) Thompson and their son Corey (Missy) as well as several nieces nephews, and cousins.

Becky is preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ronnie; her mother Madelyn Hayes, her father Boyd and step mother Elna Haagenson, her parents-in-law Roy and Grace Thompson, sister Sandra Tofsrud-Luder, brother David Haagenson, step brother Randy Pederson, her grandson Alec Howard, nephew Allan Tofsrud, nephew Jeremiah Haagenson, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as several good friends.
