Obituary

Renee Antionette Holmes, 68, of Leeds, ND passed away Friday, August 19, 2022 at her home under the care of hospice.  A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday August 27, 2022 at the Leeds Lutheran Church with Pastor Connie Monson officiating.  Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.  Burial will be at Leeds Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flower, memorials are preferred to: Hospice of the Red River Valley 1701 38 th Street South Fargo, ND 58103.  Everyone is welcome to stream the funeral service through the Nelson Funeral Home Facebook Page.

Renee was born March 7, 1954 to Theodore 'Ted' and Marylou (Smith) Odden in Rugby, ND.  She grew up in Willow City, ND, where she was raised and educated.  Renee was united in marriage to Bruce Holmes on October 29, 1971 in Willow City.  Renee and Bruce had two children Melanie and Shawn.  They lived in Berwick then later Barton, ND and spent the last 40+ years of their marriage in Leeds.  Renee was employed at the Red Owl, Chapmans Market and Tracy's Market in Leeds for a number of years.  She also specialized in Home Healthcare for local residents.

Renee had a strong passion for flowers and gardening.  She spent many enjoyable hours in the garden and grew a wide variety of produce.  Renee and Bruce also made numerous trips to the Anamoose Greenhouse flowers to fill her garden. She often asked Bruce to pull over wherever flowers were being sold, just to check their selections. Renee was active in the Ladies Auxiliary, Leeds Active Woman and enjoyed attending services at Leeds Lutheran Church.

Renee's greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren.  When she could, Renee enjoyed traveling with her family to Arizona, Florida and to Washington to see her mother.  She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Renee is survived by her children, Melanie (Jay) Holzbauer, New Richmond, WI and Shawn (Kimberly) Holmes, Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Philip James Kraft, Ariel and Javen Holzbauer, and Brody and Ryder Holmes; sister, Judy Moen; sisters-in-law, Nancy Holmes, Kathy Holmes and Shelly Holmes; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Bruce; parents, Ted and Marylou Odden; parents-in-law, Wayne and Norma Holmes; brothers-in-law, David and Steven Holmes, Darwin Moen.
