Richard "Dick" Anderson, 86, of Maddock, ND passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the Heart of America Medical Center in Rugby, ND. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 15, 2017 at the North Viking Lutheran Church in Maddock, ND with Pastor Allen Campbell officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at the North Viking Lutheran Cemetery in Maddock, ND. Music will be provided by Rachel Markestad. Casket Bearers will be Curt Tveito, Steven Tveito, Leigh Tveito, Rich Oksendahl, Mark Johnson and John Palmer. Military Honors will be provided by the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #123 and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team.
Richard Anderson was born September 21, 1930 to Edwin and Minnie (Hovland) Anderson in Maddock, ND. He grew up in Maddock, attended and graduated from BCATS with the class of 1949. After high school, Dick worked for the S&H Gasoline Station in Maddock before being drafted into the United States Army. Dick served his country from 1952-1954 during the Korean Conflict and returned home after his honorable discharge. He worked at the S&H Gasoline Station and the Haukness Clothing Store for a short period. Dick worked the majority of his life at the Nottestad Grocery Store in Maddock where he always treated children to candy or a nickel.
Dick was very proud of his military service in the United States Army. He was a member of the Theodore A. Togstad American Legion Post #123 and the North Viking Lutheran Church. Dick enjoyed reading, dancing, music and road trips around the local countryside.
Dick is survived by his siblings: Delores Palmer of Mandan, ND, Lois Johnson of Maddock, ND, Joyce Tveito of Mandan, ND, Pete (Rita) Anderson of Fallbrook, CA, Roger (Darlene) Anderson of Orange, CA and Gwen (Harry) Branner of Boise, ID; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Minnie (Hovland) Anderson; brother, Eugene Anderson; sister, Bernice Wisness.
